Fic: Playing games

So I have had a go at the challenge and I have gone off on rather a wild tangent. Have a look at the prompt in the trailer and you’ll see what I mean. Anyway this is just a short fic and I think it is fair to warn you it is about Cowley and is Gen (checked the rules to see if gen was alright and I think that is okay *g*). Also I seem to have made it just in time as it is still the 31st somewhere in the world. *wipes brow*

Fic: Of Camping in October and the Perils Thereof

Sneaking this in while it's still Friday 9.14pm Pago Pago Time. *g* My apologies for its relative short-ness.

Fic: Since Eve Ate Apples

Oh, I am not even going to pretend that it's still the 31st in Pago Pago land or anywhere else. But I'm just going to see if I can't sneak this in before [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight officially closes things :: slips it on dialj desk and whistles nonchalantly::

This is a sequel to Time Will Tell, the Coma-Fic I wrote for the last challenge. And it is respectfully a gift for the one and only [livejournal.com profile] msmoat. I wrote this to get myself into a happy place, and now it's her turn to be there.

Found in Fanon/Discovered in Canon

Well, despite the extended daylight savings time apparently working hard in Pago Pago, the Found in Fanon/Discovered in Canon challenge must finally come to an end... It's been fun seeing the twists and turns of everyone's Pros-y little minds, so thank you to everyone who contributed, everyone who read and commented and even just thought about playing!

Despite the fact that I'm about two years behind with this project, I will eventually manage to put these stories together into a Dialj Bound zine, which will then be available for download via the user info page - I promise! I did finally get all the banners and tagging done for the user page links, right?!

Automatic archiving in Pros seems to have faded away a little in past months, so unfortunately using our "footer" system to request archiving at Circuit and ProsLib may not in fact mean that stories are archived. They will always be accessible via the banners on the User info page, and I hope to link to all stories from the author pages of Palelyloitering as well, but the most immediate way to ensure your work is archived for future Pros readers is to contribute your own pages to The Automated Hatstand Archive. If anyone would like help with this, The Hatstander is ever so friendly, and you can also email me via the contact information on our user page!

Meanwhile - watch this comm... *g*

Discovered in Remembrance

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day, in the month of November 1918 - ninety years ago this year - there was a strange kind of quiet over the trenches and battlefields of the Great War. It was the quiet of peace, the official end of a madness that had consumed men and women the world over in what they thought had been the War To End All Wars.

Of course it wasn't, and while we shall remember them at 11am on the 11th of the 11th, we are also now remembering the men and women who died in the Second World War, and in all the countless wars and political non-wars since.

The lads were born just after the end of the Second World War, and they grew up in a time when most people hoped to be able to live out their lives in peace. It wasn't to be. Fanon and canon has Bodie involved in wars in the Congo, Angola, the Middle East and Northern Ireland. Doyle was a policeman, but he talks of the Yom Kippur War, which lasted a mere twenty days but killed over ten thousand people, and of course the Cold War whose death toll will probably always be unknowable.

Bodie, Doyle, Cowley and all the other CI5 agents are deeply immersed in that Cold War, and others. Lithium Doll made a video years ago that's a salient reminder of how the CI5 world works - Fields of Marigold. If you don't already know it, then I totally recommend you wander over to Circuit via the link and download it to watch. Pros doesn't pretend that those dying as their "duty" die more romantically than the rest of us. Charlie may or may not survive being shot in the left lung, Jack is shot in the stomach, and Tony Miller dies ingloriously - just as those who really died "for their duty".

We thought we might remember them all, this year, with a Discovered in Remembrance challenge.

Between now and 11am lad's time (GMT) on the Sunday that falls after the 11th November (Sunday 16th November) we invite you to post your fic, your artwork, your vids and thoughts to commemorate both the CI5 agents who fall in the line of duty, and the millions of people around the world who have been killed by war. If you would like a specific prompt then please comment below - or if you're simply inspired by your own thoughts, or by [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors' banner and think you might like to join in, it'd be nice if you'd comment to let us know - but not compulsory!
