I think what I'm enjoying most about this story is the way you've drawn the parallels without forcing the CI5 universe out of shape. You've kept a fine line between the rational and the supernatural without demanding that we accept something that couldn't happen in the canon-verse.

And there's more! I think I'll be very sorry when this story ends...
