Particularly important in an AU to have recognisable bits of canon. I intend gradually to nudge this fic back toward more mainstream B and D. [Though it can't go all the way, clearly.]

Perhaps sudden resumption of speech ability would have been dramatically advisable, but it would have strained medical credulity. And I think this way can have some artistic merit, too.
