This is so real, it sounds like the lads, you can just so picture them, almost feel the cold and snow - especially when the lump of snow falls off the overhang onto his hair and dribbles down Doyle's neck. Brrr! Beautifully written and, as various people have said above, feels just as though it is part of an ep. And, even though technically, not much happens, you actually manage to tell a whole story in a lovely subtle way. You use telling details, especially visual ones, very well. "Doyle stood arrested, the teaspoon in his hand poised halfway between coffee jar and mug. Stray granules sprinkled the worktop unnoticed." I could just see those coffee granules. And you kept that early tension up so well for so long - I found myself speculating, as I read, as I'm sure you intended me to - who was dead? - jumping from one character to another. Bodie? No, it's him doing the telling. Cowley? No - he sent Bodie. Ah, good, a villain, not one of "our lads" - very cleverly done. Don't know how you fitted this in with all your other commitments but I'm glad you did. Can't wait for the next! And would you mind if I friended you, please nicely?
