Drabble Challenge: Adrift

Whilst mulling over [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight's prompt, managed one of [livejournal.com profile] moth2fic's: jetsam.

Adrift

Bodie stands in the centre of Doyle's flat, the one still point as Malone's boys prowl around, looking for evidence, for some indication of who put two bullets into Ray Doyle.

For the moment he isn't thinking about vengeance or justice or even proper investigatory procedure. He's simply looking at Ray's possessions--the tin soldiers and terrarium, the stereo and the plant stand--and thinking about what will happen to them if the unimaginable happens and Ray doesn't pull through. Thinking about what all this will become, mere jetsam to be cast off, without the man who gives it meaning.

Oh... it's reassuring to already know that it all works out well. Because I don't think Cowley would let Bodie turn Ray's apartment into a shrine, although I'm tragically amused at the idea of Bodie standing armed guard over the terrarium.

Poor Bodie!

*Swallows hard*

A very powerful image.

That so defines the man and his feelings for Doyle. Good to know he did pull through, otherwise I'd be a sniffling, miserable bundle by now.

A powerful moment. Love the way that all Bodie can focus on are the possessions and what their owner's absence might mean.

Just as well we know he makes it, or this would be dreadful beyond words. I think this hits on something we really do - latch on to some relatively tiny detail of a situation when the main crisis is too much to even consider. You know? A little after-Ray's-recovery companion piece also featuring the possessions could be special ..... pretty please?

Poor Bodie! From the look on his face when Cowley's reading the words from the gravestone, I can imagine him thinking just this. Good job. Thanks.

Bodie in Ray's apartment is one of my favourite moments in DIAG ... yes me too! Love the way you've used it here, putting poor Bodie into this maelstrom. Thank goodness it all turned out OK.

Oh Bodie slowly preparing himself for the worst. Bless him.

Thank you and thank you for sharing this with us.

So much unspoken emotion! So Bodie!
