Drabble Tree Challenge

I'm using the popular last word of "life"--supplied by both [profile] callistosh65 and [profile] schnuffi. Callisto, this is for you.  It doesn't really make up for your week, but maybe it'll give you some pleasure.  I wish it was actually banter, though!

If
by PFL

"Life in a word: if."

"Eh?"

"One of the things Bodie says.  Said."

"He's going to make it, Doyle."

"If they can operate.  If he survives.  If he's himself when he wakes."

"He's strong."

"He's a fatalist.  He knew it was a suicide mission you sent him on."

"It was his choice."

"To fucking save me."

"Aye."

"Well, here's a certainty for you: we're out of it after this.  Together."

"Oh yes?  What can you offer him I can't?"

"Life."

"Not...love?"

"You know."

"Does he?"

If they can operate.  If he survives.  If he's himself when he wakes.  "He will."

If you want to rip out my heart, you've done it. Thank heavens Doyle is sure. Thanks.

Of course, thanks! It was good.

What do you mean "if"? He will get through! For Doyle. He won't leave him behind, never. Please? I hate it when you do that - heart wrenching, gut knotting bloody drabble. *sniffles*

Bodie on the brink of death is not heart wrenching? Wake up! We're all trembling with Doyle here and she says she mostly deals in happy endings *rolls eyes*

Ah, this is beautiful. He has to get through, so that Doyle can shag him through the hospital bed make him all better...

Love it ♥

What, like the "shag of life"? Bodie's half dead and she thinks smut *shakes head*

I hope those hospital beds are quite sturdy... *whispers "handcuffs"*

Bodie's half dead and she thinks smut

And your point is....?

I'm trying to write my own smut, damnit! Not easy with bloody Zak and Cody on telly in the background!

Rest easy, hon. I loved it and found it comforting in the extreme. You are a treasure to do this for me and I love you for it, thank you. I marvel at how you get a whole world of backstory in something so short.

Wonderful! Didn't make me want to cry at all, nope, not a bit.

::hides quivering lip:: *g*

You really manage to shoe horn an enormous amount into those 100 words.

Yes it produces that odd little ache in the middle of my chest -- thanks for that -- but it also promises a lot of lovely things in the future... thanks for that too!

Thank you!

How do you do that? There really is so much backstory here - the dangers Bodie faces without thinking twice, to save Doyle; Doyle loving Bodie and never having dared tell him yet; Cowley knowing all about it ... not to mention the way it sets up what will happen later. And all in a nutshell.

Thinking about the drabble-related discussion on Pros-Lit lately, this is a good example of the difference between a 100-word snippet and an actual drabble, a complete story in 100!

Very nice! Enjoying as always...
