Discovered in a Christmas stocking - 2 January

Hi guys

It's my turn today and I have two short fics to offer.  Hope you like them.  Here's the first one:

Doyle cranked up the heating in the Capri, holding his fingers to the dashboard as lukewarm air sputtered feebly through the vent.  He peered into the blackness outside and then briefly turned on the headlights, looking for any sign of Bodie’s return.  A row of faded cat’s eyes blinked up at him from the middle of the road, but there was still no sign of Bodie.  Doyle flicked off the lights and gave the footwell a quick kick for good measure.  Absolutely bloody typical, this was.  Of all the things that could have gone wrong on this op, a broken down car on a deserted lane just outside London was the last thing he needed.  And just twenty miles away from home! Twenty miles away from a warm flat, a soft bed and a glass of strong whisky to see out the new year.  He glanced at the clock on the dashboard – 22:47.  No chance of making it home before midnight now.

He leaned over and turned the headlights on one more time, lighting up the bend in the road ahead just as a single figure made his way round the corner and towards the vehicle.  Doyle cranked up the heating one more notch as a blast of cold air entered the car and Bodie eased himself into the driver’s seat.  Doyle looked expectantly out the window at the black road in front of them.  No one following, no blokes with torches or a tow truck, or anything else at all.  “And…?”

Bodie fiddled with the ventilation buttons, steering the streams of air directly onto himself.  He pulled off his gloves and rubbed his hands together, leaning towards the dashboard grill.  “And what?”

Doyle looked back out of the windscreen, nodding at the road ahead.  “So where’s the rescue party?”

Bodie unzipped his parka and leaned back in his seat.  “Erm, sorry mate.  No cavalry this time.”  He nodded towards the window.  “There’s a phone box a mile or two up the lane.  I called the RAC, they can’t get anyone out to us for a couple of hours - New Year’s Eve, and all that.  Called HQ as well, and apparently a couple of stranded agents who aren’t on duty is not what is considered an emergency.”  Bodie leaned across Doyle’s side of the car and flicked open the glove compartment, emerging with a half eaten packet of cheese and onion crisps.  He peered into the packet and shoved his fingers inside.  “Although that’ll change quickly if the food runs out…”

Doyle folded his arms and slumped back against the door.  “Two hours?”  He glared across at Bodie.  “Why can’t you fix it?  Aren’t you the one who’s always boasting that he can fix any car as long as the battery’s working and the brake line hasn’t been cut.”  He nodded at the various blue and orange lights illuminating the dashboard.  Battery’s working fine, mate.  Go fix it.”

Bodie offered a crisp to Doyle.  “Got no tools, have I?  Can’t do anything without the proper tools.”    He raised his hands and gave a small shrug.  “Sorry mate.  Someone’ll come soon enough, you’ll see.”

Doyle grunted and checked the time on the clock.  23:19.  He switched on the radio and fiddled with the tuner, turning up the volume when Radio One crackled into life through the speakers.  Forty minutes until midnight.  He rubbed his eyes and propped his elbow on the handrest inside the car door, watching his breath cloud up the window.  Beside him, Bodie munched away quietly on the last of the crisps, bobbing his head absently to the beat of the music.  Doyle smiled and drew a vague pattern in the condensation with his finger.  It could be worse, he supposed.  He could be stuck in a car with Cowley, or Anson and McCabe and their constant sniping.  He tucked himself in against the door and closed his eyes, listening to the quiet sound of Bodie tapping out the rhythm of the radio on the steering wheel.

***********

When he opened his eyes again, the lights on the clock were blinking silently from 23:45 to 23:46 and a hard, steady rain was drumming down on the windscreen.  He stretched out his legs and stifled a yawn, lifting one knee onto the seat and turning towards Bodie.  The car rocked gently as Bodie shifted in the driver’s seat, mirroring Doyle’s position so they were now facing each other.  Doyle could barely make out Bodie’s features in the darkness of the car, just a floating pale face and the outline of his jaw illuminated by the orange glow of the dashboard lights.

Doyle swallowed dryly and licked his lips.  Just fifteen minutes until midnight.  He felt Bodie smile into the darkness.  “Welcome back, sleeping beauty.  I was beginning to think you were going to dream the new year away.”

Doyle ran a hand through his hair and blinked tiredly.  “No sign of the bloke from the RAC then?”

Bodie shook his head.  “I wouldn’t hold your breath, mate.  I think everyone apart from us is out there somewhere with a pint in one hand and a bird in the other, waiting for the clocks to chime.”

Doyle looked across at Bodie.  Poor sod.  He was right, this wasn’t any way to spend New Year’s Eve.  Bodie would want to be at some party in town, charming all the ladies and getting so pissed that Doyle would have to remind him to kiss the girl when Big Ben struck twelve.  Not stuck in a broken down car in the middle of nowhere with just him for -

“Happy New Year, Doyle.”   Bodie leaned over and kissed him.

Doyle blinked.  Bodie was kissing him!  An honest-to-goodness, no-holding-back, straight-to-the-groin, rough and dirty lover’s kiss.  Doyle wrapped his arms around Bodie’s neck, anchoring him in place, dipping his head back as Bodie’s mouth left his and travelled along his jawline.  On the dashboard behind him, the clock blinked out the time.

23:54.

Doyle pulled his head up, shifting his legs as Bodie’s knee pushed its way between his thighs.  “Hang on, there’s five minutes to go yet.”  He tugged at Bodie’s shirt, slipping his hands underneath the fabric and pulling Bodie closer for another long kiss.  “You’re too early.”

Bodie’s breath snorted softly into his mouth, hot and wet.  His hand fumbled round the side of the seat and Doyle suddenly found himself lying on his back looking up at the skylight in the roof of the car, the passenger seat fully reclined.  Bodie pressed his weight down on him, covering him completely with his body, his knee once again nudging Doyle’s legs apart so their limbs were completely entangled.  “Trust me sunshine, you have no idea.”

Doyle sniggered and dipped his hand into the waistband of Bodie’s cords, groaning softly when Bodie pushed down on him harder, the car now starting to rock with their steady movements.  He closed his eyes as Bodie’s hands fumbled with his t-shirt, pulling it up over his stomach and then lingering on his chest.  He pulled Bodie’s head down towards him, kissing him firmly on the mouth as Bodie’s movements quickened.  Through the haze of sensations, he suddenly remembered something important.

“What about the RAC man?  He’ll be here soon.”

Bodie’s movements stilled for a moment and then continued, his hands now tugging the t-shirt off over Doyle’s head and arms.  He tossed it into the driver’s seat and began working at the buttons of Doyle’s jeans.  “There is no RAC man.  I didn’t call anyone.”  Bodie dipped his head towards Doyle’s stomach, and Doyle could feel him smirking against his skin.  “We’re not even really broken down.  I just stalled the engine and killed the choke.”  He looked up Doyle, his hands still moving gently over Doyle’s ribcage.  “Sorry, mate. I just didn’t want you getting away from me this New Year’s Eve.”

Doyle grabbed hold of Bodie’s hair and pulled him back up for another kiss.  “I’ve got news for you then, sunshine. I’m afraid we’re going to need that RAC man after all.”  He tugged at Bodie’s shirt buttons, sending them scattering and pinging in all directions.  “I cut the brake line when you went out to get help…”

Heh. Trust them to go for the sneaky way of being together on New Year's Eve. For some reason, I've always liked broken down car stories. Maybe it's the familiarity of the environment, and then the wonder of new discoveries. Thank you!

Oh, you know I love this, but I shall tell you so again! I love the lads in close quarters like that, and all that wriggling, and sneaky lads both knowing what they want. Plus the title is genius prompt-use - heeeee!

Lovely! Those two tricky devils certainly deserve each other. :)

I still haven't stopped giggling! Great story!!!!

heh heh, Doyle out-thinks Bodie.

Excellent use of reclining passenger seat there. And Bodie delicately sustaining himself on cheese and onion crisps - such delightful details. Thank you.

I *loved* the two of them sabotaging the car to get to each other. This was delightful, thank you!

Tricky, the both of them. But in this case, guile gives them what they want! Nice descriptions of the setting and action!

The mix of the everyday and the special is fab :) And I just laughed out loud when Doyle asked about the RAC man ... Excellent double-bluff ending too :D

How cute! They both had devious ideas. Now they'll snog until they're too cold to do anything else, and then still have to have the car towed. Unless they fix that line and rush back to Bodie's flat for more shagging. *g* Thanks!

[identity profile] greengerbil.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh,naughty - and dead clever - Bodie! And how twisty was Doyle, too! *g*

What a great fic for New Year! And so atmospheric, as well - I was right there in the car with the two of them.

Thank you!

Lovely! I was just reading along, thoroughly enjoying - and then you so cracked me up with the last line! But I think they'll both consider it a brake line and a tow sacrificed in a very worthy cause ... *g* (and of course Bodie will tease Ray about it forever after, because his deviousness didn't actually involve immobilising the car). Thank you so much for the treat!

Oh, I love the twisted gift-of-the-magi sort of ending there. Both of them wanting the car broken down so that they can spend New Year's together...and what a very sexy New Year it turned out to be, too! :)

This put a big smile on my face, thank you!

Hee! Thanks for making me laugh! This should have been the offering for 31st Dec or 1st Jan! I hope it wasn't as cold for them as it is here... Happy New Year!

Sorry that I'm a bit late posting.
It really isn't often that I laugh out loud when I'm reading but you certainly brought on a fit of giggles *g*
This is such a brilliantly visual fic.....and as greengerbil already said, I did feel like I was there with them so, if she could just move over a bit, I'll have a bit more room in the back seat! Well done you.

Catching up on some reading

Really liked the way they both had the same idea about the car and spending the New Year together. Great fic and full of some brilliant descriptions, especially liked: An honest-to-goodness, no-holding-back, straight-to-the-groin, rough and dirty lover’s kiss.
