Discovered In Jubilee June

So, [livejournal.com profile] magenta_blue completely nailed the first challenge of Discovered in 1977 by remembering that:

"…there is in existence a picture of myself as a particularly grumpy toddler at a Silver Jubilee street party with a Union Jack plastic hat strapped to my head. So I guess there were a ton of impromptu street parties on that day - 7 June, lots of road closures, people dragging their paste tables and chairs outside to join in, flag waving, stereos turned up full blast and aimed towards the front windows..."

Yes - 7th June 1977 was the Queen's Silver Jubilee, and somewhere, in the midst of it all, were Bodie, Doyle, CI5, and one grumpy toddler…

"…watching in bemusement as a Silver Capri screeches to a halt in front of the table of food, and two equally grumpy men jump out and continue the chase on foot - Bodie stopping just long enough to snag a sausage roll and wink…"

Or maybe they left town, or holed up indoors somewhere to get away from all the fuss and fury? Now what could two grown men do all day, on their own, in a small flat in London..?

This month's Discovered In 1977 challenge is to come up with some connection between the lads and the Queen's Silver Jubilee - and just to make it a bit more interesting, when you sign up below to join in, you'll be assigned an object that might have been seen on the day itself to include in your creation…

Feel like playing? Comment below to receive your "object", and then simply post your creation in the week 13th - 20th June!

And the links below may help with inspiration and atmosphere...

Memories of the Silver and Golden Jubilees

Definitely want to play - what a terrific idea! I remember all this red, white and blue food everywhere, the man in our street who spent God knows how long painting the kerbstones red, white and blue, and me wandering around the whole day with the most ridiulous plastic hat squashed on my head..*g* Sign me up!

*raises hand tentatively* erm...can I play? It's about time I stopped lurking, and the anniversary seems as good a time as any. (I can write a bit, honest, although I've only done a couple of things in the Pros fandom.)

(My own Jubilee memory is spending a day on a float, dressed as - an elf! Hee! Oh the sweet synchronicity of life!)

Not signing up, (sorry!), but had to comment and say that the banner and icon for Jubilee June are BRILLIANT! Love love love them. ^-^

Oh, I want in! I've been reading Giles cartoons from that month, and I already had a story around the Jubilee in mind.

What's my object? :-)

[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com 2007-05-19 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to request to be included.

Bodie likes cake. Thanks!

Oh go on then - I shall try my best!!!

*smooch*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Chances are slim that I can manage this, but I want to try. (Especially since I've got an inkling of an idea for what I hope will be a very short story.) So what's my object?

[identity profile] asymphototropic.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. Would you consider lending me an inspirational object to see if I get any ideas? [without my promising to come back with any cogent thoughts?] So far, absolutely nothing presents itself to my convolutions on this topic. [Maybe I'm too distracted with a new job assignment, trying to present myself in a sane manner; always a trial for me, acting Normal.]

[I'm a direct descendant of Eddie III, so not sure if I should condescend to encourage those newcomers to Windsor. ha. According to family sources, one of our more Northern Anglo-Saxon female kin got right into the spirit of the Norman invasion, with, erm, enthusiastic but illegitimate results. Typical of our rowdy lot. Mutt genes and no gold inherited.]

Yes!

Looking forward to receiving my object so I can play!

Ooo chuffed to bits to see my name up there! So now how can I resist, please sign me up *g*

What object will I get, I wonder, seeing as the marvellous plastic hat is taken?!!

[identity profile] magenta-blue.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha - can these bunnies be younger, more Playboy-esque bunnies or shall I try and fit Maud, Glad and Doris into this tale?! Or tail... hmm, now there's an idea...

[identity profile] kiwisue.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Can't say I remember a darned thing about it... but yeah, sign me up for something!

How about that? You cna use the toy or the real thing, I don't mind. :D

[identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...this is really, really late and, necessarily, the story would be really, really short...but I have a vague inkling of an idea. So, please, may I have an (easy) object? (And I don't quite believe I'm saying this, either! But I have until the 20th, right? Right? *g*)
