Discovered In A Newspaper - July 1977

Having loved everyone's reminiscences about Jubilee Day in June 1977 we thought we'd bring a bit more hard-core history into the July challenge. The inspiration for writers and artists and everyone this time is an actual newspaper article from July 1977 - and from The Times, no less... *g*

Clicking once on the image will enlarge it enough to read fairly easily, clicking twice will make it even larger, and bring up that expand-y icon in the bottom right hand corner which helps you see it in very big writing indeed... Sorry about the quality, it's a genuine article, from The Times on 1st July 1977, found the other day, printed out from microfische and then scanned into jpg format! If anyone has problems reading it do let me know, and I'll see what I can do...

So... how were CI5 involved in this incident? How were the lads involved? Maybe they weren't at all... maybe they just happened to read it in the paper... As ever, it's entirely up to you how much use you make of this inspiration - as long as there's a hint of it somewhere in passing...

And it's probably a good idea not to use the actual names of people involved, by the way, just to be on the safe side of not-being-sued-for-making-up-stories-about-them... *g*

As ever, if you'd like to take part, please comment below, just so we can get an idea of what to expect when posting comes around. Creations should be posted between 13th and 20th of July.

Any takers..?

Oh, me, me! *enthusiastically waves hand in air*

Bombs and explosions and missing girlfriends... sounds like fun!

Although I'm not sure I'd say that about the bombs and fun too loudly these days... *g*

The funniest thing I saw on TV recently was a clip of some fighting in the middle east, and right there in the lower section of the screen were the silhouettes of hands waving at the camera. I know it's all terribly tragic, but I really had to laugh at the explosions and gunfire across the street, and here are people going, "Oh! A camera! Hey, ma! Lookit me! I'm on TV!"

You're right - not much has changed. Just the names of the good guys and the bad guys.

Do you remember back when the Mujahideen were sexy freedom fighters on horseback, helping James Bond in the struggle against the Communist threat? Now they're just scary Muslim extremists, and, okay, I've heard the Communist threat is gone, but... There's something about nukes. And poisoned ex-spies. Still Bush calls him "Vladimir" and says they're buddies, so - no worries, right? We're all friends now!

;-)

oh I'll go for this one please, although the word "plot" does give me palpitations ...*g*

I mean plot as in erm ... progression-hangy-together type things ... But since you've very kindly provided something with plot points already in it yay! altho ... eek, even less excuse than usual for meandering burble *g*

Well, I think I'll play. (Although I'm supposed to be writing a zine story! Yikes!) Hmm...the events themselves are from 1976, so even earlier on in their relationship than the Jubilee... ::wanders off thinking::
