I'm afraid I'm late to comment and have nothing original to add, but I loved loved loved this story (er's are my favorite), and I agree with whomever above said it was sweet without being cloying or mushy. The concentration on dialogue I think is part of what does that, and you have their voices down perfectly. I also liked the bit we learn about Bodie's past--not a lot, but a hint. Even though you've made up Doyle's family, it does seem like he would have had the better family life, somehow.
