It feels like just yesterday that I was saying it was November again... but now it's January in a whole 'nother year (we really hope!) and it's time to pack the baubles away again.

Thank you to everyone who took part - whether as a writer, artist, thought-provoker, reader, commenter or general cheerer-on. I know it makes my December a bit brighter to see the lads in my flist every day! That said I've got loads of catching up to do too, reading and commenting both (something seems to happen about 10 days in for me...!) and I'm looking forward to that. *g* You should now be able to click each day on the calendar below and be taken to the baubles for that day!

The posts will of course stay here in [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj, easily found via the Challenge Banners on the User Info page, and also via the tags, by author/poster, as an archive, and if you haven't already archived your contributions somewhere else too, then it's a good idea, because the more back-ups we all have the better, right? *g*

That was the fifteenth annual [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj Christmas/winter/solstice/let-there-be-light shindig - how amazing that we're still here - and here's to the sweet sixteenth!

I'm cheating, I'm afraid, because I've been totally distracted by the bizarre scenes in Washington tonight, from finishing the fic I was going to post. I will finish it, and post it here before I go to bed... but it's going to take me slightly longer!

In the meantime, have one last shiny bauble while you're waiting...

Christmas Feast
by Slantedlight

They came together that night because neither of them had any other place to go. It was after 11pm on Christmas eve, and even the pubs were shut, everyone getting ready for a cosy night, for Father Christmas, and stockings and trees. Still hyped up on blood and adrenaline, Doyle hadn’t said anything when Bodie turned off the car engine outside his place, and claimed that was as far as he was going because his heating was off and he’d run out of booze.

They both knew that wasn’t why.

Can't remember where I got this one from - annoyingly I've not recorded provenience (bad me...), but I like the way it describes the lads as staying in touch, and how nice MS is about LC. *g*
JawsBeckonShaw (WDWpremiereMeeting)

Martin Shaw, who as Doyle in The Professionals, portrayed one of ITV's roughest toughest, and staunchest guardians of law and order, has a reunion with his old partner Lewis Collins (Bodie in the series).
The occasion was a previous of a block-busting adventure movie, Who Dares Wins, in which Lewis stars as an SAS man.
"It was good to see Lewis again," he said. "In fact, it was a bit of a reunion of The Professionals all round. Ian Sharp, the director, has worked on The Professionals, as have a number of the technicians employed on the film.
"I thought that it was a great, action-packed adventure film, and a good break for Lewis. He gives a first-class performance.
"Would I have liked to been in it? Well that's a bit of an unfair question. Frankly I don't think that I would have been as good as Lewis in that role. Its much more suited to him than to me.
"It's not the kind of role that I am particularly looking for, but on the other hand who can honestly say whether they would have taken a particular role had it been offered to them, and had the money been right. I just don't know. I only know that Lewis has done very well, and I am very glad for him."

It's the last day of the challenge, and the first time I've posted on this day of the calendar. I've got something I'm hoping to finish (and something that I didn't finish at all - waah), but those will be for later, and in the meantime I'm going to have a rummage around in the box today and see if I can find a few more baubles to post, and pretty-up our flists... *g*

I started off with a quick rummage around the British Newspaper Archive, where I found this, from the Reading Evening Post on Wednesday 07 October 1981. It's a new picture to me too, though I've seen him in similar poses in pics - how fun to still be able to find new things about our lads *g*. Transcription under the pic, because they're not the clearest of images.

"Television tough guy Martin Shaw added the professional touch when he unveiled a group of new flats yesterday.
And the heart-throb actor, star of The Professionals series, showed he is just as at home with a whisk as he is with a gun.
"I'm playing the host today," he said as he invited visitors to look round the new flats for single people on the New Park development at Tadley.
They have been designed by Wimpey Homes Holdings Limited and to make sure they had the right image they asked Martin to choose the furniture and fittings.
The bedsitter flats are fully furnished and the first eight put on sale for £16,985 were sold within 48 hours. It is hoped about 1000 will be on the market throughout England by the middle of next year.
Mr Donald Macpherson, chairman of Wimpey Homes Holdings Ltd said at the opening he hoped the new flats would solve the problems facing so many single people who wanted to buy their own homes.
He added "The decor and furnishing have been personally, and dare I say it, professionally chosen by Martin Shaw to help create the feel of carefree modern living."

Wow - can you imagine having bought the flat decorated by our Doyle (yes, I know, our MS - but I did say imagine *g*)?! I had a quick google to see if I could find out whethere the flats were still there (bet they're worth a bit more than £17,000 now...) but google isn't playing nicely... I'd love to see the decor he chose!

Hmmn - also, I'm getting quite the Raymond Dibble vibes from this photo... *g*

Ah, those fencing scenes in Not a Very Civil, Civil Servant. Not nearly long enough, are they? I thought a little extended seasonal pleasure might be had by examining them, and the picture in my last post, in greater detail - *vbg*.

Caveat: I am not a sports fencer, although I did check some information with my nephew, who was on the fencing team at his university. All mistakes are my own of course.

The picture I posted earlier is a publicity still from NVCCS. There are two scenes in the episode where the Lads and Cowley are in fencing whites. One comes soon after the opening credits, the other is right at the end. They serve to provide some expository moments (and eye candy), but they don’t seem to have a great deal to do with the plot. Moreover, there’s some question about the utility of the Lads learning fencing in the first place. I’ve seen comments on a few sites contemplating this somewhat bemusedly – such as the “fascinatingly bizarre” description given to the first fencing scene on Dave Matthews’ Mark-1 website.

In fannish circles, the focus is usually on those nice, figure-hugging whites, rather than the other equipment. I’ve got nothing against that, and I’m not trying to drag you away from your contemplation, I just thought it would be a good idea to review the basics in a relevant way.

I’m not too good at the whole multi-tasking thing these days. Only takes a few distractifying happenings (or people) to get me right off track. Luckily, I found a bright bauble that has helped my focus immensely... I hope it will do the same for you *g*

So, my resolution for the new year is to make more room for fandom in my life. It's been a difficult year, hasn't it? Well, back in the day there was a difficult year (or eight months, really) for Bodie and Doyle. Read about it, if you will, in my entry for this year's celebration. I haven't written anything since last year's post, so my writing muscles were a bit creaky. But here it is!

The Christmas Presents - Part 3
a Picture Story by macklingirl

Late in the afternoon of 30 December, they brought Ngiora Mbsama safely to the airport. When the plane had taken off safely, they walked leisurely back to the car.

"Where to now, Ray?" Bodie wanted to know.

"Let's go to the nearest pub first, I need a whisky and a pint. And then home."

"Okay, I know a nice little pub with a nice barmaid and a very tasty whisky." Bodie opened the driver's door. "Let's move."

Five minutes later they arrived at the pub and were lucky that it wasn't too full. There was only a young couple in a corner and the barmaid behind the bar. Bodie went and got two pints a pack of crisps.

"Look Ray, which whisky do you want?"

Twenty minutes later they arrived at the studio. Bodie put a blindfold on Doyle and led him to the streetlights. "I don't want you to see to early what it is, love."

"Okay, Bodie. I trust you and hope it isn't a dungeon." Ray said a little uncertain.

What's next )
"Okay, Bodie, let's get some pizza and salat and then we go home. And after we've eaten you'll get your present."

They drove to the Italien place Bodie loved so much and ordered pizza and salat as take away.

Home again )
Listening to the music they relaxed on the sofa, some snacks, beer and whisky on the table.

"It was a wonderful Christmas, wasn't it, Bodie?" Ray asked.

"Yes, love. With you, it is always a wonderful Christmas." Bodie answered and kissed him once more.

I told [livejournal.com profile] golden_bastet that I would likely not write a fic for this challenge, but it seems that I have. And here it is.

George Cowley's past and present meet on New Year's Eve.

Black Bun, White Paper

We are working late tonight, my top agents and I. I know they are disappointed that they'll not be kissing their current young ladies at midnight. I would have spared them that pleasure if I could, though I doubt they'd believe it at the moment. It couldn't be helped, however. This case had to be wrapped up, whatever prior commitments there might be.

My office is in silence, but for the hazy noise of traffic, when I hear the bell towers of this city begin to toll twelve.

Well, can't call it completely joyful, but it does end up okay. Plus things may not be what they seem... But see the trailer at the end of the story if you need warnings.

Bodie frowned. It was supposed to be their first Christmas “together”, but they weren’t. Together that is. He considered that thought as he got out of the car and locked it. They had been together since they were first partnered. Even over Christmas, they always found some time to spend together, negotiating space around work, family and birds to exchange small gifts and more importantly some small measure of time. Is that where it started? From together to “together?”

He put that thought aside as he entered and browsed the aisles of the market. For no rational reason he could think of, he was looking for food to celebrate Christmas. Alone was what he was, but that was not how he was shopping.

This was not what they had planned at all, but when their case suddenly came to a head last week, it found Bodie in Dover and Doyle in Scotland, to see it through. Bodie’s end had come to an abrupt conclusion just hours ago, but still no word from Doyle on when he would make it home. But there was no chance it would be tonight – Christmas Eve..

And likely not tomorrow either. Bodie sighed as he finished his shopping and headed for home. He had enough food to feed an army for Christmas, but no-one at home to share it with. Well it was home when Doyle was around. Now…….
