I was actually going to make one more post myself today, but I don't think I could top [livejournal.com profile] golden_bastet's ending of the challenge yesterday, so I decided to not even try! We'll stick with 31/30 days... *g*

Thank you so much to everyone who participated - whether you posted or commented or supported! As usual, if you did write a story please consider archiving it elsewhere as well, and do especially send it to our brilliant ProsLib archivist (the more places the better, right?)! All the challenge posts will be available in our own [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj archive, via the banners on the User Info page. And for people who are still catching up with their reading and commenting (like me...), here's the calendar with links to all the posts. Click on a square to be taken to the posts for that day!

I hope it helped a little bit when most of the world was somewhere in the middle of their own 30-or-so-days-and-nights. I know seeing our lads every day made me feel a little brighter - so thank you everyone for that too! *g*

So, today comes the final part of my short picture related story. I apologise for the bad quality of some of the pictures, but some of the material wasn't good either. I hope you like it and enjoy.

The Final Step
by Macklingirl

"Sir! May I have a word with you, please?" Kate Ross called after Cowley, who was on his way to see the Home Secretary. With a sigh he turned and waited.

"What do you want, Doctor Ross?"

They were on their way some fifteen minutes later.

Meanwhile one of Bodie's ex-girlfriends met Doyle's last girlfriend.

Five weeks later they had their farwell party.

"You know what I wont miss after tomorrow, Bodie?"

"No, tell me."

"The laughter of Cynthia back there. Did you ever wake up with her laughing into your left ear?"

"Nope. It was my right ear and it was terrible."

I hope you enjoyed the little sillyness I created. I know that my idea wasn't possible in their time, but my phantasie wouldn't stopp.

Just another Day by the Sea

By Dawnwind

Brighton Beach was swarming with holidaymakers, each and every one determined to make this rare twenty-nine degree weather memorable the next time they had to endure bitter, lashing rain. Locals and tourists alike had flocked to the seaside, sunbathing or splashing in the English Channel. There were small shops selling all manner of colourful souvenirs to the public, as well as a fortune teller, helium filled balloons, a coconut shy, and not one but two bands, situated on opposite sides of the arcade, vying for the honour of who could play the loudest.

My first posting was always going to be dedicated to Lewis on his birthday.

Remembering you on your birthday. ( more to follow later)

This is not at all what I intended to post today.  Life has turned upside down (I've just been laid off from my job - thanks, Covid - and now I'm having to move house for the third time in less than six years).  But then you sit down to write, and you have to let the muse and its inspiration take you...
This is a teaser for a not-yet completed story, but I _will_ be working on it, because the prompt just reached out and grabbed me when I saw it... it's too good to let go.
(It's the photo at the end, (hopefully) under the cut, because to see it first might spoil things...)

Fortune’s Fate

“I’m telling you, Ray, this is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve had the – wait for it - … fortune … to find.”

I watched [livejournal.com profile] maidavids' upgraded Eye of the Tiger vid this morning, and I must admit that my first thought was more Bodie - where's Doyle? but then my second thought as I was watching was about Bodie's SAS background, and how much it's brought into play during the eps, and then I wondered whether Doyle's background was brought in just as much, and then I wondered about how far the lads came up to scratch to each other as regards training. Does Bodie have SAS expertise that Doyle has had extra training to match? Does Doyle have expertise from his police experience that Bodie has had extra training to match? Hmmnn...

Weapons Expertise
Bodie's often asked about weapons - expertise from mercs, SAS, paras etc. presumably.
Bodie InWhiteGun

But Doyle obviously knows his way around them too - presumably CI5 training?
17 D shooting

Finding Clues
Doyle spots things like Greek cigarettes!
BDC DGreekcigarette

Do we see Bodie doing clues? *g*

Chimney climbing
Presumably this is another SAS type thing - or is it? Because Bodie has this conversation with Murphy:
BODIE: Who's talking about going up the ladder? Go around the other side, straight up the brick wall. No problem.
MURPHY: Can't do it.
BODIE: I know. You can, though. Can't you? Come on, Murph, you're the best climber we've got. Climbed the Eiger, didn't you?
MURPHY: Yeah.
BODIE: Well--
MURPHY: I had guides.

So although Bodie can climb, he's deferring to someone with more expertise, so it's entirely possible that Doyle could also climb the chimney - he's certainly happy on rooves and up and down scaffolding, although that's not quite the same thing... *g* They're both happy legging it around rooftops in Blind Run.
Bodie chimney Doyle climbing

Diving
Well, they both do that, don't they. It could be thought of as an SAS-taught skill, but maybe it's another CI5-trained skill.
DB scubanight

Advanced driving
Seems like something they'd both be trained to do.
Would Bodie be trained to drive specialist military vehicles? Or would they both be trained to do that for CI5? We see them in a speedboat, which isn't a standard skill - and though perhaps we might expect Bodie to have to drive a boat in the SAS, it's Doyle who does it in the ep, so - CI5 training?

Interrogation
Doyle would presumably be trained in the police, whereas we wouldn't expect Bodie to be trained in interrogation for the SAS/Paras/mercs? Although he might be, I suppose.

Questioning witnesses/families/victims
This would presumably be Doyle's ground again, but Bodie wouldn't have had any need for it. Hmmn - do we see Bodie questioning anyone in the eps? Or Doyle, for that matter...

So... what else? *g* What special skills do they each have? And where do you think they came from?

Taking the next step
by Macklingirl

A month after telling Cowley they were lovers Bodie and Doyle came to a decision. They wanted to take the next step. But they had to plan it carefully.

"4.5 for Alpha one. 4.5 for Alpha one. Can we have an appointment, please? We have to talk to you."

VTS_01_2 05906-K.png

Look here )

Two days later they had a meeting with the Minister. The result wasn't what they all expected. But did they all expect this result? Look for yourself. *g*

I hope you had fun with this piece. It's a little longer then planned, but I think that's not to bad. And if you would like to see the pictures in full size, please click on the one you want.

Driving home after telling Cowley
by macklingirl

"That went well with Cowley, didn't it? I'm really glad Miss Walsh was there, Bodie."

"Huh, what do you mean with 'that went well', Ray? He shouted at us."

Well, that went well.png

"Well, at least he didn't kill us."

"And Miss Walsh told him to be happy for us. I love the old girl." (laughing out loud)

My entry today is a vid recommendation: The Gambler by Mary Van Deusen.

(To watch this vid on YouTube, click here. To download it, visit its Circuit Archive page.)

This vid was created in the late 80s or early 90s, and it is available in The Circuit Archive, so there have been many opportunities for people to see it.  On the other hand, it has been viewed very little since it was uploaded to YouTube, which is one reason I chose it for a recommendation from among my favorite Pros fanvids.  (Another reason is that this challenge definitely needed more Cowley. *g*)

One of the characteristics of Mary Van Deusen's fanvids is their good workmanship.  You can find her other Pros vids in this playlist.

All of the Pros fanvids that I've been able to find on YouTube (all 839 of them) can be found in this playlist.

I would like to hear your opinion or first thought/feeling about the atmosphere of that picture.

Or what is Bodie or Doyle saying? What has happened ?  Or what else is springing to your mind ?

I was playing with this image and asked two friends for help about the title. It turned out, we have got two and a half different opinions about the lad's mood there.  Deeply interesting.....

So, the idea was born to ask here to get even more interesting answers :-)

You'll find my first thought in the comments if you want to.

[livejournal.com profile] hyael45 posted a rather inspiring pic to her lj this morning, featuring two of my favourite characters - our Doyle, and Don De Marco, from Ladder of Swords. She also started off her post by saying Our little Raymond has a secret. A brother... and my head was mulling on that all day, and finally I couldn't resist... *g* It's not quite where she was going (which means that's another story for someone to write one day! *g*) but I hope it's okay...

Ladder of Secrets
by Slantedlight
A Pros/Ladder of Swords crossover

“Northumberland.”

“That’s right.”

“You’re in Northumberland.”

“Your hearing’s got better any road.”

Doyle took a deep, patient breath. “And what do you want me to do about it?”

“You never were much good at guessin’”.

“Ah look, it’s two in the morning…”

“Countin’s still strong.”

Another, deeper, breath. It had always been like this, it would apparently always be like this. “I’ll ‘ave to ask the boss.”

“You do that, our kid.”

And that was that. Click, burrrrr.

Beside him Bodie stirred, as though he might wake, and Doyle froze. Bodie’d woken when the phone rang of course, and Doyle would have sworn blue he was awake for most of the call, but now…? A slight huff into the night, and Bodie scrunched the corner of the pillow, and then he was quiet again, lulled by Doyle’s voice, by the comfort of still being in bed, and no one pulling on holsters or confirming orders.

Bodie’d be awake in half a second, if there was something to wake for. When there wasn’t…

That made it harder to leave him, of course.

This is the first photoset I ever made of the lads - in the hour or so between the end of my first watch through and my second. These are from Close Quarters, an episode that, quite frankly, had a lot that was worth rewatching.

I’m sure the intended context here is Bodie’s bandaged hand, hence Doyle’s pointed look downward - which connects to the next scene of Bodie and Julia actually on the river.

But Bodie’s hand is not in frame for this scene, and Doyle’s downward leer is especially lovely, and neither one is up to any good.
