Well, the Ashes are long over - huzzah for England! - and there is no more bizarre but strangely compelling commentary on the airwaves, so our challenge is over too... There was a rush of competition early on, but the final batting scores are:

[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - not out for 13
[livejournal.com profile] kiwisue - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] sunray45 - extra man - not out for 4
[livejournal.com profile] greengerbil - not out for 3
[livejournal.com profile] probodie - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] callistosh65 - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] heliophile_oxon - out for a duck, but we adore her and her fic anyway... *g*
[livejournal.com profile] jaycat - LBW, but in very nice form... *g*

No, I don't really know what I'm talking about either (*g*) but isn't that half the fun of cricket? In any case - [livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna is very clearly our finest batsman, and as promised there will be a prize winging it's way to you... if you drop me an email at slantedlight at google maildot com... *g*

Thank you everyone who played our very lazy Pros-y game of cricket - all entries will be archived via the user info page, as usual! For now though, a very (very) short breather before our next challenge...
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Well, it's been very quiet out on the pitch, and I know a couple of people still have... um... Balls in their pockets? Wickets up their sleeves Stories they were thinking about, so we shall have some extended play this weekend, rather than start a new match - if you'd like a new commentary quote prompt then do let me know (I'm away and my co-mod is also way out in the field for a while, so there may be a pause, but I should be able to get online on the odd occasion) or if you just feel cricket-ly inspired then feel free to post that too, otherwise keep writing, and the current scores look like this - there's definite star quality to our opening batsman too... *g*

Current Batting Line Up
First Match
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - second innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] heliophile_oxon - third innings - out for a duck, but we adore her and her fic anyway... *g*
[livejournal.com profile] greengerbil - fourth innings - not out for 3
[livejournal.com profile] jaycat - fifth innings - LBW, but in very nice form... *g*
[livejournal.com profile] probodie - sixth innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] kiwisue - seventh innings - not out for 7, and she hit a six to get there!
[livejournal.com profile] callistosh65 - eighth innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] sunray45 - extra man - hit a four

Second Match
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - hit a six!
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
It's Friday 7th August, and the Ashes are being played out at Headingley this weekend. I'm reading the commentary here and I think England is in to bat (and that we're missing Freddie Flintoff this match for some reason...) but it's a little hard to tell because... well, check out the commentary page and you'll perhaps see what I mean. So...

...I thought it might be fun to use prompts from the commentary today, because honestly, they could mean anything. For example:

Right, it's Jerusalem, and here come the players. - B/D are sent to pick up a villain who's been hiding out as set designer in a professional theatre company.

Siddle shares the new cherry with Hilfenhaus, and here's Cook on strike... - Siddle and Hilfenhaus are in charge of training new boys, Bodie and Doyle...

No need to worry folks, here comes KP... hang on a minute... come on Belly, now's your time. He gets a poor leg-side full-toss first up and sees out the over. - Bodie's shirt has been torn away, revealing his tummy, which Doyle... no, I'm just gonna leave the rest of that to your imaginations... *g*

So... If you think you might manage a bizarre-commentary inspired ficlet, drabble, or... well, anything really, comment below and I will give you a random snatch of commentary from this weekend's test match... There are runs in it for anyone who participates, all counting towards the ultimate ProsTestFic trophy prize, awarded at the end of the series... *g*

Posting anytime you like, as long as it's by midnight Tuesday 11th in your timezone (or Pago Pago, as always). As always, feel free to claim a prompt just in case you might manage it, and feel free to claim and post as often as you like!

Anyone fancy the game? *g*

Don't know if these will fit in with the Challenge, but have been thoroughly enjoying all the Innings and a few ideas started rambling around in my head.

I Only Have Eyes for You )
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
In something bearing absolutely no resemblance to test match cricket timings, we're now up to the eighth innings, with roughly 21 hours still to play (midnight Pago Pago time/12 noon Tuesday lads' time) - anyone like to follow on from [livejournal.com profile] kiwisue, who hit a brilliant six by declaring that she was going to follow the theme from the previous entry - and doing it?

Current Batting Line Up
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - second innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] heliophile_oxon - third innings - out for a duck, but we adore her and her fic anyway... *g*
[livejournal.com profile] greengerbil - fourth innings - not out for 3

[livejournal.com profile] probodie - sixth innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] kiwisue - seventh innings - not out for 7, and she hit a six to get there!
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Yeay everyone who's stepped up the crease so far - thank you! Hope maybe there's a seventh someone who feels like playing? No cricket necessary (I'm actually surprised there's been so much, so far! *g*) - all you need is to start your fic with the word "over" (which is what [livejournal.com profile] probodie ended hers with.

Claim your innings by commenting to [livejournal.com profile] probodie's post to say you'll take a turn!

Current Batting Line Up

[livejournal.com profile] probodie - sixth innings - not out for 2

Okay, I grabbed the next spot and hope no one else had picked that spot. I wrote this snippet, whilst listening to the Ashes (which I love) and tried to temper down my knowledge of cricket with Doyle's lack of same. Hope you like it, and sorry if I have done wrong.

The word was 'Imagine' )
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Anyone up for playing the sixth innings? Comment to [livejournal.com profile] jaycat's post, and the word you must start your fic with is... imagine!

Holiday

It’s August, it’s the silly season, and I should be packing to go away on holiday, but I couldn’t resist the challenge. Being a novice, I was caught LBW and out for a duck by more seasoned players at the close of yesterday's play, but thanks to a generous umpire's decision, here it is anyway, my errant ficlet starting with ‘thought’.

Hit for Six

Here we go - written at great speed (for me), and totally unbeta-d, so many apologies for repetition, mis-spellings, dodgy paragraphs, etc. A product of the complete washout at Edgbaston today, which meant I had to make up my own cricket match!

So... here is the Fourth Innings, Hit for Six )
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Last word of the last fic was thought - any takers? Go on, you know you want to - all those straps, all that lovely clean, crisp white gear... and the lads, our lads?

Current Batting Line Up
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - second innings - not out for 2
[livejournal.com profile] heliophile_oxon - third innings - out for a duck, but we adore her and her fic anyway... *g*
[identity profile] heliophile-oxon.livejournal.com
Trying to put it under a cut - fingers xd as per usual ....
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Wow, cricket really is the slowest game in the world, even on lj, even with our lads involved! Anyone else like to play? The next post only needs to start with the word "well"...

Current Batting Line Up
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - second innings - not out for 2
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
You know, I don't think I've ever written one of these before... I rather think this is pwp, pure and simple... huh. *g*

Careful Observation )
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
It's a beautiful day here at [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj, blue skies and a light breeze, leaving us a fabulous pitch. Play started slowly, but with a beautiful innings from our first batsman, [livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna who clipped away the first ball with wristy relish (What? It's a thing they say! *g*) for a six, and finished in nice time with a final score of 7.

Current Batting Line Up
[livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna - first innings - not out for 7
[livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - second innings -

Keep an eye on... yeah, okay, my form in the next innings, and if you fancy having a go all you need to do is comment to the fic I post to claim the third innings - your fic will start with the last word of the fic I write. And there's no length requirements (though more than half a dozen words would be nice), so...

*straps on leg pads and helmet, eyes box with disdain, picks up keyboard bat...* *g*
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
It's still summer here, and we've had holidays, we've had weddings, and it's finally time for those immortal words...

We welcome World Service listeners to the Oval, where the bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey. (Try reading it out loud for that heeee moment... *g*)

Yes - the sport of gentlemen (and Bodie) - cricket!

We thought we'd try something a wee bit different for this challenge too - something fast-paced, hard-hitting (no, it is based on cricket, really...), that will work best if lots of people join in... a Prosfic Test Match series!

I know, I know - the Ashes are half over - third test started today at Edgbaston... but that's okay, we shall take it one match at a time, and see if there's a winner by the end of the series. (Don't worry, you don't actually have to write about cricket - unless of course you want to imagine the lads in their cricket whites, with that long mark where they've been rubbing their balls on their trousers... *g*)
