Another Discovered in 1977 challenge over - fourteen offerings to the darkening evenings there were! Thank you to everyone who took part, and thank you too, to [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors for the gorgeous banner and challenge icons! As ever, there will be links on the User Info page to help find the challenge stories and other creations, and they will eventually be included in the Discovered in 1977 Dialj Bound too.

And as ever - there will be another challenge, so do keep an eye out... *g*

My entry for the autumn challenge (though the autumn reference is pretty well blink-and-miss). I was inspired by the news article yesterday on weird English laws.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] callisto65 for helpful suggestions and encouragement.

My prompt from [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors for this Bonfire Night drabble challenge was 'setpiece'.

This is my contribution to the Discovered in Fallen Leaves challenge--although not the drabble part of it. *g* It is also sort of a response to the earlier Discovered in a Sketchbook challenge. I, er, incorporated the lovely, lovely drawings by [livejournal.com profile] crimson_37 and [livejournal.com profile] artconserv. (Click to see the original prompt drawing, and the reply "What Happened Next" Definitely not work-safe.)

Plus... (yes, yet more ambition for this slight story) [livejournal.com profile] justacat a long time ago said she'd really like to see me put banter into a sex scene. "Ha!" I said. "No. Can't do it." "But you'd be so good at it," she told me, knowing I'm a sucker for flattery. So--ahem--here is my attempt at that.

Does it suffice to say that the working title for this story was "Autumn Smut"?

Fluffy Bunny
by Slantedlight

"Reminds me of hunting with my grandfather," Bodie said out of the blue, or rather the black, one crisp Bonfire Night.

Doyle traced Bodie's thoughts idly through the haze of smoke and the maze of fizz as he watched the rockets bursting stars - silver, green, gold - into the sky.

"Oh yeah?" he asked, "With HRH was it? Brace of grouse or two?"

"Eh?"

"Shooting!"

"What? Nah," Bodie nudged him away from the bonfire to where a smaller flame was burning, where lips were licked and greasy fingers sucked. "We'd eat it straight off the spit, just like that…"

Ok, this has gone in a slightly different direction then I expected! I really hope you like, and happy Nov 5th, everyone. Prompt was Roman Candle.

It's the fifth of November, which in lads'-world (i.e. the UK) means it's Guy Fawkes Night, or Bonfire Night, or basically a good excuse to play with fire and things that go bang. Despite the fact that at least one website proclaims that Bonfire night is a celebration of the attempt to blow up Parliament, it's actually supposed to be a celebration of the failure of the attempt to blow up Parliament in 1605... A bloke called Guido Fawkes was daft enough to actually be caught in the act of lighting the fuses, in a cellar under Westminster, although to be fair this was because a bloke called Tresham wrote a letter to one of his mates due to be sitting in Parliament on the 5th, telling him not to go. Bit suspicious, that. In fact he may even have been a double-agent in the first place, which...

Okay, there's lots of websites, and lots of you know all this already, of course, but basically, it was an op worthy of sending the lads on, if they'd been around 400 years-ish ago...

All of which rambling is really to say - drabble night, anyone?

Little bright shooting-star type pieces of writing about the lads? On bonfire night, or at any other time if you're feeling otherly inspired, and if you'd like a bonfire night-ish prompt, then please do comment below.

No deadlines, although of course it's only the fifth of November for so long, but it's all part of the Discovered In Fallen Leaves Challenge, so feel free to post inspirations up until the 9th November. Although, you know, some posts tonight would be nice... cheer me up no end, they would... *looks hopefully out at lj-land*

Argh!!! It's gone midnight in Pago Pago, but the sun's still down so maybe I can just get away with it.

For those of you who don't know, I have a bit of a love for bad poetry and thus I offer for your delectation...

Round the Horn - The Ballad of Two Professional Seamen )

Any suggestions for the title gratefully received.
ETA: I've come up with a title which hopefully should make sense. :-D

Um, I didn't sign up this Halloween Challenge though, I did a drawing. So, if you're interested in please take a look. But it's a rather comic-ish one than realistic one. Be careful! And Thank [livejournal.com profile] agentxpndble  for encouraging me to post it:)

Thanks:)

First, I apologize.

Second, this is cheating on so many levels that it is pretty much a lost cause.

Third, my prompt was "Bodie and Doyle meet The Headless Horseman."

Fourth, I apologize.

Really.

My prompt was ‘Medusa’ and [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight was hoping for a strong female character in Pros.
Uhm…

All In A Name )
[identity profile] loyseofverlaine.livejournal.com
My prompt was "a black cat", and I swear this wasn't at all what I had in mind at first.

Into the Blue

Doyle claimed afterwards he'd seen some kind of a big black cat running off, a tiger or panther or something. Bodie laughed, but without much conviction. He didn't mention he'd seen something too, something he firmly told himself was only a dog, probably an Alsatian, limping around the corner.

The prisoners had vanished. The door of the holding cell was still locked, and none of the security systems had been breached, but they were gone. Nobody could understand how two handcuffed men who'd both been put through serious CI5 questioning could have got up and walked away. The kid, especially, wouldn't be doing any walking for some time. He hadn't been particularly stoic, unlike the big man, who hadn't made a sound despite the best efforts of some real experts at digging for the truth. But the kid's screams and curses had all been for his partner. Not one scrap of information, or even a whimper about his own pain.

Bodie didn't believe a word of the rubbish the informant had babbled about super senses and mystical powers. He believed in armalites and fists.

But the prisoners were gone.

And Doyle said he'd seen a black cat.

I didn't officially sign up for the "Discovered In The Fallen Leaves" Challenge, because I never know if my Muse is going to co-operate or not. In this case she did, though not in the manner in which I expected. But hopefully this wee, dark tale is well suited to a telling on All Hallow's Eve.

New Beginnings at Burdock )
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
The nights are early, the trees are skeletons against the moon-waned sky, and there are bats in my garden. It's All Hallow's Eve!

If we're very lucky, then someone out there might be writing Pros Halloween fic, but we thought we'd offer up a mini-challenge for the night too (in many different time zones, of course, thus stretching some 36-ish hours… *g*). Got your lanterns, black cats, and pumpkins? Then let's begin…

Comment below, and your assignment will be to enlarge on the following sentence, using whatever prompt we give you:

"Bodie and Doyle meet…"

It can be anything - prose, poetry, drabble, art, vid (oh, now that would impress us!), something we've not even thought of… It can be as long or as short as you like, as detailed, or as left-to-the-dark-crevices-of-halloween-imaginations as you want. Post by dawn, in your timezone, on the 1st November 2007.

Go on. You know you want to. Trick or treat?
[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Outside my window the moon is cloud-scudded behind the branches of a tree that is desperately clinging to its leaves. Everywhere else they're golden and orange and whisper-dry brown on the pavements. It's autumn...

We're actually a month on from the autumnal equinox, but in less than ten days it will be All Hallow's Eve, and not long after that - remember, remember, the fifth of November... Last year we posted separate challenges for each of these (Discovered on All Hallow's Eve and Discovered In A Skyrocket) and there was no autumn challenge - this year we're combining all three!

Feel free to make any autumn-(and lads!)-inspired post between now and Thursday 8th November, and watch out as well for mini-challenges along the way. Oh, and wrap up warmly, cos the breezes are somewhat brisk these days, there's mist in the air, and frost across the grass... *g*
