Yes! Absolutely it's a true "legend", the Mari Lwyd is a Welsh tradition, which died away for a long time after it allegedly got "out of hand" - you'll find information if you google. I remembered it from featuring in one of my favourite book series, Susan Cooper's "Dark Is Rising" (I've not seen it yet, but I don't trust this movie that's been made of it...), so I looked it up again and it's ever so interesting. Various similarities to mumming in Kent, and the legend of Rhiannon, and... well, I shall leave you to google's tender mercies!
