I'm using the popular last word of "life"--supplied by both
callistosh65 and
schnuffi. Callisto, this is for you. It doesn't really make up for your week, but maybe it'll give you some pleasure. I wish it was actually banter, though!

"Life in a word: if."
"Eh?"
"One of the things Bodie says. Said."
"He's going to make it, Doyle."
"If they can operate. If he survives. If he's himself when he wakes."
"He's strong."
"He's a fatalist. He knew it was a suicide mission you sent him on."
"It was his choice."
"To fucking save me."
"Aye."
"Well, here's a certainty for you: we're out of it after this. Together."
"Oh yes? What can you offer him I can't?"
"Life."
"Not...love?"
"You know."
"Does he?"
If they can operate. If he survives. If he's himself when he wakes. "He will."

Date: 2008-04-20 04:57 pm (UTC)But, hey, I guess I was successful in making you all feel what Doyle is feeling--in 100 words exactly. Ha! *g*
Thank you for commenting!

Date: 2008-04-20 05:29 pm (UTC)You really manage to shoe horn an enormous amount into those 100 words.
Yes it produces that odd little ache in the middle of my chest -- thanks for that -- but it also promises a lot of lovely things in the future... thanks for that too!
Thank you!

Date: 2008-04-20 09:01 pm (UTC)Thinking about the drabble-related discussion on Pros-Lit lately, this is a good example of the difference between a 100-word snippet and an actual drabble, a complete story in 100!

Date: 2008-04-21 01:10 am (UTC)No, see, you're doing all that! You're extrapolating from my suggestions. *g* It's fun, isn't it? And maybe a little frustrating....
I did try for a complete story. But it is all suggestion and hints, playing to a Pros audience. *g*
