May Day! Part Twenty-nine
May. 30th, 2008 09:30 am“Oh for fuck's sake!”
Bodie paused on his way back to the car and looked back. “What? Come on, they’re getting away!” On seeing his partner’s stony expression, he held out his hands in a conciliatory manner.
“Cowley, that’s fuckin’ what!” Doyle exploded. “If he’s playing us for patsies again--”
“You’ll what? Resign? We can’t do that, we’re already suspended, remember?” Bodie’s nostrils flared. Why couldn’t Doyle leave it? They had to trust the Old Man or… well, they just had to trust him, didn’t they?
“Yeah, so that we can do his dirty work while he keeps his hands clean.”
It didn’t surprise Bodie at all that Doyle should know what he was thinking. This was how they worked, how they kept one step ahead of the bad guys … whoever they were.
“I don’t like this, Bodie.”
“And I do? I was in that photo, too, y’know!”
A discreet clearing of the throat reminded them that White was still near. He raised his eyebrows as both agents glared at him. “They’re getting away,” he reminded them, nodding towards to the car park exit and putting his hands on hips, exposing the butt of his gun.
“Who, exactly, is getting away?” Doyle asked him, snarling. “The big fish, or the prawns?”
“It’s pawns.” Bodie told him.
“Eh?”
“The saying. It’s pawns in a game of chess.”
“Yeah, but prawns are little fish, aren’t they?”
White rolled his eyes. “I thought you two were Cowley’s finest,” he sneered. “Is this how you solve your cases? By bickering like kids over silly words?”
He blinked and suddenly, Cowley’s finest were in his face, dangerous and menacing.
“When we bicker…” Doyle told him and White couldn’t quite see how Bodie had gained the reputation as CI5’s resident madman, because Doyle looked a pretty good contender for the title from where he was standing.
“…we’re thinking,” Bodie went on, poking his index finger in White’s forehead with every other word. “And when Doyle starts thinking, it means trouble for the bad guys. Which means…”
He turned to Doyle. “What does it mean?”
“It means I know where Foley’s going,” Doyle replied, grimly. “My grass. I know him. The bastard.”
Bodie stopped prodding White and straightened his lapels, smirking. “We know where Foley’s going,” he whispered, conspiratorially to the shaken agent. He fell into step beside Doyle.
“Where are we going, sunshine?”

I thought you knew? Foley's your character, after all! Oh well...
*nudges with pokey-stick, not titanium, like Drayce's, but still effective*

Date: 2008-05-30 12:34 pm (UTC)Yeah, Doyle can be just as dark as Bodie in his actions. He just thinks too much about the consequences.
Glad you liked this :)

Date: 2008-05-30 02:07 pm (UTC)Nicely played! ♥
Love the prawns bit of course, and I love the way they're swift to turn on White. There's always that "thing" isn't there, where you're allowed to gripe about a loved one but you close ranks fast if there's an attack from the outside.
So, where is Foley going? Hmmm....

Date: 2008-05-30 04:16 pm (UTC)Absolutely! These two do it to such good effect.
Where is Foley going? To some dark and distant part of Doyle's past? I dunno...
I'm getting worried. This is due to finish tomorrow, and I only did a short piece to get it going again. Hope someone picks it up.

Date: 2008-05-30 07:08 pm (UTC)Okay, if no one else is gonna play again, I shall heed the pokey stick... *g* (Although even if it's Saturday midnight it finishes, it's actually Saturday midnight in Pago Pago, which is, for example, erm... 11am Sunday morning, GMT! (Phew!) So there might be a bit more time. Unless you live in Pago Pago... *g*
