Discovered Whilst A-Carolling
Nov. 17th, 2008 11:46 amIt's getting on for the end of November, which means that it's getting on for the beginning of December, which means that...
... it's nearly time...
...for this year's
discoveredinalj Winter/Solstice/Christmas/Let-There-Be-Light-in-December Challenge...
This Challenge lasts from the first of December all the way through the month and into January, finally finishing at midnight (Pago-Pago time) on the sixth of January.
Participants each claim a full day for themselves, during which they will post something Pros-y - or as many Pros-y things as they like! If you would like to see some that we made earlier... *g*... do go and look at what happened in 2006 during Discovered in the Mistletoe and in 2007 during Discovered in the Brandy Butter. If you scroll right back to the very first posts for those tags, you'll get an idea of how it all works.
To claim a day on the calendar, comment below saying which date you would like - if two people comment at the same time, the day will go to the first commenter to have posted!
empty_mirrors will then snag the icon that you used in your comment, and will place it on the calendar to reserve your day. Your icon will also eventually serve as a link to your specific entry. Icons won't always go up immediately though, so it's worth keeping half an eye on the comments so far just in case someone else has nabbed a day but the date isn't yet blocked off on the calendar.
Then all you need to do is wander off and decide what it is you want to post - fic, art, vid, cartoons, quizzes, icons, wallpapers, calendars, your own challenge-in-one-day, general ponderings on the nature of the lads and Christmas and why they loathe/love/have never understood it... the world is your Pros-y oyster! Your post doesn't even have to have anything to do with the general Challenge theme - it could simply be a present to Dialj members, that little something that you've been meaning to post for months but haven't quite got around to... It could even be an antidote to the winter months (*waves to those Down Under*)...
Come one minute past midnight GMT on your very own day, you may post at will until midnight GMT at the end of your day. Please no Pago Pago time during this Challenge as it will effect the person posting after you - except perhaps by prior arrangement with whoever that person might be... It's a slightly tricky one with the spread of different time zones so please be aware of the people around you and where they are from!
Our banner and calendar graphics have been made again this year by Dialj co-mod
empty_mirrors, using artwork generously created especially for us by the talented
minori_k. Thank you! And if anyone is stuck for ideas, you might notice that the calendar is also populated with songs to accompany our Challenge theme - these, should you choose to accept them, are your prompts for the day! As ever you don't have to have/use a prompt - but they're there for inspiration.
The idea is that everyone will have at least one Pros-y thing in their flist throughout December, and until the end of the twelve days of Christmas. In fact there was so much Pros-y goodness in 2006 that we had to extend the Challenge Calendar... *g*
Once it seems as if everyone has had a chance to claim a day, if there are still empty days in the calendar, people are very welcome to claim another day - or if they are all taken and you're still feeling inspired, then it would also be helpful if you felt like creating us some extra content, for use in emergencies! Please email or pm me if so...
On that note - if you claim a day, but for some reason aren't able to post after all, don't worry about it! The worst that can happen is that there will be no Pros post in people's flists that day - the best that can happen is that you'll be able to let us know beforehand, and we might be able to fill the day with extra content instead! Everyone has unexpected crises of one sort or another now and then - and as ever we're chilled about that sort of thing here at Dialj, so... just let us know if you can!
Please sign up as soon as you can too, so that we can see what days are left empty and need extra content from us, but that said, if you're uninspired until December 17th and see that December 18th is still an empty day, then feel free to comment and claim it then!
December 25th, the day which already has the Discovered Whilst A-Carolling icon up, is the only day which is not available to be claimed - otherwise, have at will! *g*
And now, to a fanfare of carolling CI5 agents - please comment below and claim your Discovered Whilst A-Carolling Challenge day!
