Bodie and Doyle pounded the streets of London, pulling in long-forgotten favours for answers to their incessant stream of questions. They met informants in pubs and alleyways, using bribery, threats and blackmail to get to the truth. They riled gang bosses, unsettled security chiefs and were single-handedly responsible for discovering the source of a weapons drain within the Ministry of Defence. Their names were feared throughout the capital by anyone with anything to hide. Small children treated them as heroes, housewives swooned over them and the men in charge started putting their affairs in order.
The activities of Bodie and Doyle resulted in the shaking up of CI5, the resignation of the head of MI6, and almost caused a government to fall.
But this is where the story must come to an end, as all of these details are covered by the Official Secrets Act and the file is classified on a 'need to know' basis. Suffice to say that Bodie and Doyle are alive and well, living together somewhere in Dorset with their names and consciences clear of any crimes. Bodie will never see active service again: a bullet in the leg as a parting shot from the outgoing head of MI6 has brought to an end any aspirations in that direction. Doyle, of course, refuses to consider anything that will take him away from Bodie for too long.
My name is Ruth Jones and I am the Controller of CI5. In the rooms and corridors that make up my organisation there are two names that are never spoken out loud. I ensure that they're never forgotten.
Thank you for listening to this story.

made me shiver.
I really, really enjoyed your story, though it was quite distracting to F5 lj every now and then. What a fun idea, and amazing that you told such a long story with a minimum of words!
Thanks so much for sharing!

Date: 2010-12-17 01:35 am (UTC)Wow. Brief, and yet, there's so much story there. Brilliant, concise portrayal of life on the run and an operation susie that really did leave them out in the cold permanently.
Nice to see Ruth heading up CI5 too. I always thought she was a real smart cookie.

Ah... you sussed me out *g*
