Happy Winter Solstice, Northern Hemisphere - the sun will be at its lowest point in the sky at 10.02 Lads' time this morning, and from then on, things are going to start being a little bit brighter, even if we can barely perceive it at first.

ProsSolsticeBanner(Josey)

Way, way back in 2006, I wrote a solstice fic called Perfect Alignment, and my then-partner-in-lj-crime, [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors, aka Pros author Josey, if you've not yet read any of her fab fics, made me this gorgeous banner to go with it. I thought it was worth another look. *g*

I did have a fic planned for today, but despite spending all day on it yesterday, it's not ready, and today is my last working day before my holidays (I timed that badly!), and so I'm afraid it's going to have to wait. Writing Pros all day yesterday has put me in the mood for writing Pros today too, though, so I'm going to fall back on something I've done for Dialj before.

In between work, I will write mini Pros fics in answer to requests, all day today, right until midnight lads' time tonight when my Box of Baubles is closed up again for the day. So please - comment below about a moment you would like to see between our lads, or about anyone else in/connected with CI5, and I will write and post that moment for you today. Do you just like to imagine them in a specific place, or at a specific time? Is there a burning question between them that you've never felt has been answered? Have a bullet-proof kink that hasn't been satisfied for a while? Let me know! *g* Lengths will vary according to the way my writing-head goes, but I imagine they will all be at least a hundred words.

And in the time I've taken to type that, 10.02am has been and gone - the light is coming back, northern hemisphere, our days are getting just that much longer and brighter from now on! *vbg* (Sorry southern hemisphere, but on the bright side, you've still got ages of summer left! *g*)

The Look After Number One Credo
by Slantedlight

Bodie'd said it a hundred times - more, over the years, and so many more in his head. Look after number one - I believe in me, mate - Can't afford to give a damn.

It wasn't that he didn't believe it, he still did. You care too much about the whole world, the whole world just comes crashing down on you, one betrayal at a time. Martin, Keller, Marrika, Krivas - all the way back to his best mate Johnny in Class One, trying to blame him for the smell of wee at their desk, even though it was Johnny's shorts that were soiled and dripping. You care too much about someone else, no matter how closely you think they're attached to you, and sooner or later they'd realise that their only way to survive was to throw you to the dogs instead of them.

Even Cowley... )

When the Heat is Cooling

post-When the Heat Cools Off
Doyle stalked straight past Bodie, standing waiting for him in the early evening light. He hadn’t wanted him to come, had known he’d be in a foul, vindictive temper after seeing Haydon.

Bodie followed him anyway, back to where they’d left the vehicle, sliding smoothly into the driver’s seat and not saying anything when Doyle slammed the passenger door hard enough to rock the whole car.

They sat there, the sky still a clear summer blue above them, the rush of workers home in time to enjoy it barely a trickle now, most of them off enjoying their salads or barbeques or beer gardens.

Bodie said nothing. )

Post-Backtrack
Doyle extracted himself with difficulty from Marge’s tender ministrations, catching the amused eye of Herb – or was it Alf? – in the wing mirror as he clambered out. It didn’t help that Bodie and Cowley were a smirking confederacy of two, waiting patiently in front of the railings.

“Ah, Doyle.” Cowley looked him up and down, lingering on his bruised cheek, so that Doyle wanted to reach up in case Marge had smeared lipstick across him, wipe it away like a sulky child. “I thought we’d lost you for a minute there.”

“Bet the pay’s better,” Bodie interrupted irrepressibly, and Doyle glared at him.

Cowley continued to look amused... )

Last ficlet for the day - and that's 4/4 requests fulfilled! Thanks everyone who made requests! *g*

Gone Completely Barmy

post-Wild Justice
They watched Cowley stride away, ignoring the milling police, gesturing to Kate Ross, who nodded back, clearly began finishing her conversation with one of the ambulance drivers.

“What d'you reckon?” Bodie asked, unable to let it go. He trusted Cowley, trusted him with his life, and George Cowley had held a gun to his head.

“I reckon he might've done,” Doyle said, hands casually in his pockets, not fooling Bodie any more than Bodie was fooling him.

“Yeah.”

Course I'm tempted... )
