Discovered in a Christmas Cracker - Day 7
Dec. 7th, 2012 11:01 pmI was really hoping I'd have the time and energy to do a Christmas carol parody today, since I had so much fun with Away In A Manger last year!!! And I did! This time, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear is the victim. The original lyrics are here.
He came at about midnight here,
Although the night was cold,
Angelfish bent towards my lap,
His touch was sure and bold.
Peace on the earth, goodwill to men,
I almost could believe,
That’s what his love has done for me,
So may he never leave.
All through that frozen night we came,
My Ray with hair a-curled,
And waves of sweet pleasure we rode
O’er all the weary world,
Forgetting sadness, loneliness,
We bent over in turn,
And in that gorgeous little arse,
Of heaven I did learn.
And me, load after rushing load,
Upright, or bending low,
Or, knees trembling, against the wall
Quite painful, if not slow,
And yet, oh fuck, the daylight hours
Come swiftly on the wing,
And George Cowley ne’er seems to sleep,
That ceaseless Scottish thing.
And now the years are hastening on,
And we are getting old,
That he has stayed, through all these years ,
I’d never have foretold,
And if the world should end tonight,
Not one day I’d regret,
Yet it’s that first, sweet Christmas night
That I should least forget.
