And here's the other post I promised

Doyle frowned thoughtfully, looking at the keyring in his hand and then at the small box in his other. With a shake of his head, he put the box back in the drawer and closed the drawer.
It was unnerving enough that he was even contemplating giving Bodie the keys—he really didn’t need to make it even more of a production by putting them in a box and wrapping it up like it was a fantastic present.
Maybe Bodie wouldn’t want even them too.
They’d gotten closer in the past year than they’d ever been, and the casual nights of sex when they were horny but too tired to go lure birds into their beds had gotten more frequent. Doyle even thought they might be at the stage where they’d admit they didn’t bother much with the birds anymore.
But these keys? That was a step beyond and it frightened him half to death that he was even contemplating it.
The thing was, though, he wanted Bodie to have them – to know about that most secret part of his life. Whether Bodie wanted them or not was a completely different matter.
Bodie was not the sort to eagerly embrace closeness. He tended to keep everyone at arms length.
Remembering how miffed Keller had been at the closeness he and Bodie shared, Doyle smiled. Maybe… Maybe Bodie was ready to take the next step.
There was a knock on the flat door and when it began to open Doyle quickly stuffed the keys into his pocket.
“Smells fantastic,” Bodie said as he entered the flat and tossed his keys onto the table beside the door. “What’s for tea?”
“Curried lamb, and chips.”
“Not exactly traditional Christmas dinner, old son,” Bodie said with a chuckle. He kissed Doyle briefly. “But it sounds great. You found the lager?”
“It was kind of hard to miss, sitting in the middle of the table,” Doyle grinned. He turned away and then turned back to his partner, pulling the keys out of his pocket before he lost his nerve.
“What’s that?” Bodie asked, making no attempt to take the keys Doyle held out to him. “I’ve already got keys to your flat.”
“I know,” Doyle said softly. “It’s not keys to the flat.”
Bodie looked at the keys again, and then at Doyle, swallowing hard. “What have you done, Ray?” he asked quietly.
“I trust you with my life every day,” Doyle said seriously. “I thought you should know where I’ll run, if I ever have to.”
As though afraid the keys might bite him, Bodie cautiously picked them up. “They’re keys…” he paused when Doyle fished a piece of paper with an address written on it out of his pocket and handed it to him.
“I don’t know what to say,” Bodie said.
Doyle could see the minute tremble of Bodie’s fingers as he read the slip of paper and knew it was as big a step to Bodie as it was to him. “You don’t have to say anything, sunshine,” he said with a smile. “Just take them, in case…”
“You pillock,” Bodie said, suddenly wrapping his arms around Doyle and holding him tightly, burying his face against Doyle’s neck. “If you’re running, I’ll be running right beside you!”
Doyle grinned, wrapping his arms around Bodie, finally able to relax. “Well, at least now you’ll know the end destination if we should have to separate then, right?”
“We will not be getting separated,” Bodie said fiercely, pulling back from Doyle’s embrace. Then he grinned, stuffing the keys and paper into his pocket. “Come on, angelfish, let’s eat I’m starving.”
Sparing only a brief moment to mentally thumb his nose at Keller, Doyle followed his partner into the kitchen for their very unorthodox Christmas tea.

Date: 2012-12-21 12:43 pm (UTC)Such an appropriate theme, as well. ...Christmas seems to be a time when a lot of people take a breather and step back from their life, for a moment. It's a time to take stock of what's been happening and where things might go from there.
Thanks for the lovely moment between them. :D
