I was so pleased with the icon I created for my Temptation fic, that I had an uncontrollable compulsion to make icons for all the seven deadly sins.

I gave into Temptation! Yay, me!

Oh, I'm sorry!

I kind of figured this was all part of my response to the challenge, see. I even initially titled my posts "Part 1" and "Part 2" (of the challenge). But then EH said that would confuse people reading the fic.

Anyway, would you like me to redesign the icons? What would you like them to say - I wanted to honor the DIALJ challenge, and it IS happening over Lent, specifically. Just like an anti-Christmas fic is still a Christmas fic. Temptation doesn't fit, but if you don't like the Lent part I suppose I can just take out the whole thing and only have the names of the Sins there. That's not a problem. And I'll change the links in the post to the new pics.

And, yeah, I'll be sure to check with you if I decide to do more than the challenge calls for in future.

No worries, just wanted to let you know! And if it'd been another sloth thing, then it would have been part of your response to the challenge - it's cos you did a general Temptations thing that it's a bit different!

I do see where you're coming from with the Lent/Christmas comparison, but along the same lines we'd rather any icons claiming dialj affiliation didn't say "dialj christmas" either - cos the challenge was Discovered In The Mistletoe, not Discovered At Christmas! We very very specifically didn't want it to be just about Christmas, although of course people had the scope to use Christmas as their theme, and that's what most people chose to revolve around. The original celebration at that time of year was never Christmas though, which is a celebration specific to one religion, and since neither of us is religious we'd rather avoid those sort of references as far as they involve us/the comm.

In the same way, anyone's welcome to make all kinds of references to Lent as an individual contributor (and of course I mentioned it myself in the challenge) - but please don't affiliate the comm itself to any one religion via icons etc! Does that make sense?! I know it sounds as if we're being picky, but...

So, yeah, if you could just take the word "Lent" off the icons, that'd be great. People will see from the names of the sins what's going on. We do appreciate the thought, honestly! And I know it's a bit late too, cos people will already have taken them to use, but there's nothing we can do about that, so... damage limitation for next time! Sorry to come the heavy mod too, I hate sounding like that. We don't have many rules or guidelines, but there are just a few principles that we want to stick to!

Ah... yeah, it started as just a Sloth icon. And then I had to do the rest to match.

I understand now about the Lent/Christmas thing. Will go and change those icons now.

Did you want to make some kind of announcement after I do that, so people can change to the appropriate icon?

That said - I was going to do a mod post to remind people that Hatstand isn't automatically archiving fic any more, so writers need to send it there individually, so maybe if you just edit the icons on your original post, I could mention quickly in the same post that they've been edited, and give a link back to your post... Would that work for you? Might be the simplest way of doing it?

Oh, you took off the "Dialj 2007" as well! Well, they're still fab! I'll do that post about Hatstand in a while (deeply working at the mo, which level of concentration is unusual enough that I mustn't stop for too long just yet!) I wouldn't say that you made a mistake either, mind, more that there was just a lack of information that you had to work with! We've never explained specifically that we'd rather not use religious bits and bobs for the comm as an umbrella thing, so you couldn't know! Thanks again, though. *g*

Well, I thought DIALJ 2007 by itself was a bit non-specific. Especially considering I might want to do icons for other challenges this year. Unless you think the icons really need it? For balance, or something?

Totally up to you! As I said, we did appreciate the thought (we're not really grumpy mean old cows, I promise *g*) That was what I meant though when I said that the names of the sins would make it clear which specific challenge it was for, I was assuming that you'd leave the Dialj 2007 bit on (but actually now I've re-read your post above, you did say you'd take it all off)!

Well, since you haven't posted the update post yet, I went and added the DIALJ 2007 bit back on. Visually, I like the way it looks.

And will definitely run stuff like this by you in the future!
