Now *this*, this was glorious. Been intrigued up to now, as you know, curious to see what it's all about, but now I'm in. Hook, line and bloody sinker. I *loved* this part, you've swept me right in and along. I especially loved the landscape they are stumbling through, I really see it, and feel like I'm in another world.

They scrambled through montane patches and waded past muddy wallows, bandanas shrouding their faces to avoid inhaling the insect swarms. They clambered up rocky terrain, teetered on terrifying heights, slid down crumbling slopes, sometimes on their boot soles, occasionally on their knees or rumps. When gravity took over, they tumbled and fell, tearing their sleeves and trouser legs, bloodying their extremities.

Recovering from plunges, they plucked each other out of the scrub and ran again.

Sorry to quote such a chunk, but it quite took my breath away. It puts me in mind of the first Gunslinger novel in Stephen King's wonderful The Dark Tower series. Just the most marvelous, unsettling world.
