Brighton Beach was swarming with holidaymakers, each and every one determined to make this rare twenty-nine degree weather memorable the next time they had to endure bitter, lashing rain. Locals and tourists alike had flocked to the seaside, sunbathing or splashing in the English Channel. There were small shops selling all manner of colourful souvenirs to the public, as well as a fortune teller, helium filled balloons, a coconut shy, and not one but two bands, situated on opposite sides of the arcade, vying for the honour of who could play the loudest.

Doyle stared at the knife, transfixed. It wasn’t often he saw a weapon of this sort, from this perspective. There were so few military grade knives in England, laws being what they were. He could appreciate an elegant, well made weapon when he came across one, especially so unexpectedly.

I saw this pretty picture this morning by Minori and accepted the challenge. I kept getting an image of Doyle wrapped in holly in my head. I thought it would be a drabble, then a double drabble--now it's over 1300 words. Not beta'd or Brit checked.

The bald headed man shoved Doyle hard, sending him reeling into the corner of the dimly lit room. With his hands bound behind him, Doyle had nothing to break his fall. He landed heavily on his knees, smacking his forehead on the concrete wall. Hurt like a son of a bitch, and he bit back a curse. ( Read more... )
