Discovered in Summer Shorts
Jul. 24th, 2016 07:32 pmThere's been a bit of chat in various places about the loveliness of long Pros stories, and comments too about how nice it also is to have shorter fics to read, and as I was imagining the lads in shorts thinking about that, it occurred to me that summer might be a nice time to have a new
discoveredinalj challenge - and so without further ado, I present:

(Challenge banner by
brune_arici - now isn't that just brilliantly inspiring? *g* Thank you so much!)
So - the challenge is twofold!
For authors, it is very simply to write short Pros fic for us to read in lovely bite-sized summer moments! As many as you like, as short as you like! Although there's no particular word count we're going for in either direction, it will probably be longer than a drabble, but short enough to fit in a single lj post (though they're quite long, really, so that's a fair amount of scope!) There's no particular theme either - you can write to a summer-y theme (and request a summer-y prompt in the comments below), or you can just write freestyle - case files, AU, cross-overs, whatever steers your Capri... *g*
For artists, it is to create visions to accompany the stories that are posted. You can comment to the author first, or post something as a surprise, or... well, I'm not sure what the other alternatives might be, but - something to go along with the short stories people write, because short stories needcovers love artwork too! Plus, it's just always nice to see, so any excuse... *g*
Let's see if by the end of summer we can manage a Discovered in Summer Shorts anthology of stories - when the nights draw shorter again, we can stretch out with a tropical cocktail, turn the heater to high, and re-live our lads in their shorts... (and I will actually put them together into a zine/book/collection of stories and art at the end, if we have enough - authors/artists can opt out if you prefer, but I hope you won't! I might even try to do this as we go along, for extra inspiration!)
Challenge deadline is the end of summer as defined by the autumn equinox - 22nd September, up here in the lads' part of the world. As usual, post by midnight your time (or Pago-Pago time, if you happen to be visiting that timezone)!
The Usual Comm Guidelines for Posting
1. Please use trailer information (at the end of your work, not headers at the beginning) placed under a cut so that we offer the best of both worlds - information for anyone that wants it, and a lack of spoilers for those who'd prefer not to know.
2. Please post all creations to the community - not as a link to posts at A03 or elsewhere. Obviously you're free to post anywhere else as well, but this is a community and part of the point of it is that we're a place to interact - people have space to comment on creations, and maybe even chat about them in the comments if they want.
discoveredinalj is an active group of people who adore our lads - let's play together, rather than just pointing at other computers and archives across the internet!
3. You don't need to sign up to join in, but it's always nice to know who we might hear from!
4. And I think that's it! Otherwise the rules of the comm apply - treat each other well, and enjoy loving the lads and creating new moments for them! If I've forgotten anything major, please ask below, and I'll add anything else that comes up.
It would be lovely to have authors and artists, old and new, all involved! Have you been missing our lads? Come back! Would this be your first time posting? Come and join us! The lads are a lovely place to dip your toes... *g*
Anyone think they might like to join in with the lads and their shorts...?

Date: 2016-07-24 09:04 pm (UTC)How long do we have before we have to say yes definitely?
Oh - looks like we might just spring forth fully-formed, with a story. Okay, then. :-)
ETA: and that last picture, with Doyle in shooorts and Bodie running after him in Speedos (cause let's face it, that's in effect what's going on) - I am just enjoying that waaaay too much.
