Welcome to Part 2 of my “Bodie/Doyle Christmas Snapshots”, a collection of random little scenes that popped into my head when I was thinking about the lads and the holidays. They’re not connected in any way and can take place at any point in Bodie and Doyle’s lives together. I leave it up to you to create a bigger story around the snippets for yourself! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

OUR FIRST CHRISTMAS

Ray popped the last piece of fish in his mouth, gave his malt vinegar-covered fingers a lick, then swiped his hand across his denims. Bodie, walking down the high street next to him, finished off the last chip with relish, then wadded up the empty, greasy newspaper and deposited it in the bin on the pavement.

It was a cold, crisp, but sunshine-filled afternoon in London. With only four days until Christmas, the shops were busy and the pavement bustling with people still searching out that perfect pressie.

Ray and Bodie had made lunch their first stop, filling their bellies with piping hot fish and chips as they wandered from store to store, window shopping and admiring all of the creative, festive displays.

There were Santa Claus’s that moved and talked, snowmen that twirled around, reindeer with noses that lit up red, huge candy canes and decorated trees of all sizes. Not to mention toy trains that ran on twisting tracks and model airplanes that spun in lazy circles, plus every kind of stuffed toy and doll imaginable. Bright, colorful lights blinked and garland and tinsel glittered, putting a smile on everyone’s face, no matter their age.

Ray and Bodie were no exception, the festive atmosphere infectious. Ray turned a happy grin on his partner and was pleasantly surprised when in reply Bodie boldly reached over and took his hand as they walked.

Bodie tipped his head, silently asking if Ray was comfortable with the outward display of affection. Ray’s response was to grin even wider and give Bodie’s fingers a squeeze.

Two shops down, Ray noticed Bodie staring intently at the decorated tree in the window. Before he could ask his partner what he was looking at, Bodie gave his hand a little shake and released it.

“Gonna pop in here for a minute. Be right back.”

Curious, Ray nodded. “Sure thing.”

As Bodie entered the shop, Ray turned from the window to idly watch the passersby, giving folks a friendly smile, grinning at the expressions on the children’s faces as they saw the displays.

Bodie was back beside him in just a few minutes, a small paper bag in his hand.

“Did you buy me a pressie?” Ray joked.

But Bodie’s smile was soft. “Something for the both of us, actually.” He opened the bag and withdrew a beautiful red ornament with a quaint, hand-painted, snow-capped house on it that read “Our First Christmas Together”

Bodie blushed faintly. “Thought it’d be nice if we put something of ours on the tree.”

Ray was touched that Bodie would think of doing that. “It’s brilliant. I love it.”

Bodie smiled and tucked the ornament back in the bag. He took Ray’s hand again and they continued on down the street. This time it was Ray’s attention that was caught by the display in an embroidery shop’s window. Inspired by Bodie’s ornament purchase, he left his partner on the pavement and went inside the shop, scanning the racks of merchandise for two very specific things. To his delight, they had both, and he made his own purchase.

“Pressie for me?” Bodie echoed with a grin when Ray joined him again outside.

“For the both of us, actually,” Ray echoed as well, with a wink.

He opened the bag and pulled out two whimsical stockings, one with a snowman and an embroidered letter “B” on it, and another with a gingerbread man with an embroidered letter “R” on it.

Bodie laughed brightly. “They’re perfect. They’ll look wonderful hanging on the mantle.”

“Yeah, I thought so, too,” Ray smiled as he put them back in the bag. Then he cocked a brow at his partner. “Now we’ll know if you’ve been a good lad this year or not, if you find a lump of coal in yours come Christmas morning.”

Bodie leaned in close, his voice a rumble next to Ray’s ear. “You of all people should know just how naughty I can be, eh?”

A flush of heat, a little thrill raced through Ray. Bodie chuckled at his expression and took his hand again, tugging him along.

“Mmmm…what’s that smell?” Bodie asked a minute later.

Ray inhaled. “Ah, roasting chestnuts! I think I see a little cart set up there next to the ice rink. C’mon.”

They followed their noses to the end of the high street, where the temporary ice rink had been constructed, along with a shack to rent skates. Not only was the cheerful vendor selling freshly roasted chestnuts, but warm, spiced apple cider as well. Bodie purchased one of each for them to share, and they took a seat on a bench that overlooked the rink to sit and enjoy their treats.

There were a number of people out on the ice, both adults and children alike. A few were actually quite good, doing twirls and little jumps. But for the most part everyone else were novices, just trying to stay upright on the thin skate blades. The slips and spills and falls were quite numerous, but always accompanied by a laugh and no actual injuries.

Ray found himself caught up in the amusement of watching everyone enjoying themselves and he stood up from the bench, looking down at Bodie. He hooked a thumb over his shoulder.

“Shall we give it a go?” he grinned.

Bodie looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “What? Skating? Have you gone barmy?”

“Oh, c’mon!” Ray threw his arms wide. “It’ll be fun!”

“I’ve never skated in me life! Have you?”

“Nope,” Ray grinned.

“We’ll look a couple of prats out there!” Bodie protested.

Ray put his hands on his hips. “Where’s your sense of adventure, eh? Try something new! What could possibly go wrong?”

“Could fall and break me arse, that’s what!”

Ray leaned down. “Well then, I’ll kiss it and make it better, now won’t I?” he leered playfully.

Bodie couldn’t help but laugh, shaking his head in exasperation. “You’re a right little bugger, aren’t you? Oh, go on, then, get the bloody skates!”

~*~*~*~*~

Ray couldn’t remember the last time he’d had so much fun.

He and Bodie spent the next hour out on the ice, acting like children in adult-sized bodies. They were both absolute rubbish at skating, but it didn’t stop them from giving it another go and another go. Both of them fell twice, instinctively grabbing for the other, which only brought them both tumbling down onto the ice in a heap of tangled limbs and much laughter.

They finally got the rhythm and balance of it, Ray behind Bodie, hands on his partner’s hips, giving him a push to get them going. Then it was Ray who boldly reached out and took Bodie’s hand, their arms outstretched as they made slow but steady loops around the rink, smiling at one another all the while.

When the tips of their ears and the tips of their noses were bright red with the cold and their fingers numb, they decided to call it a day, just as fat, white snowflakes began drifting down from the sky to settle on their hair and their coats.

“What d’you say we head home and I kiss that bruised bum of yours like I promised?” Ray smirked. “Make it all better.”

The corner of Bodie’s mouth twitched. “Throw in a hot bath, too?”

Ray let his expression show exactly what he thought of that idea, his voice filled with a different kind of heat.

“Oh, that can definitely be arranged, sunshine.”

CHRISTMAS BREKKIE

Christmas Day dawned clear and bright.

Ray woke slowly to two distinct, pleasant sensations. The first was being surrounded by warmth, from both the thick duvet he was lying under and his partner’s body spooned around his.

Eyes still closed, Ray gave a relaxed sigh at the second pleasant sensation—his partner’s tiny kisses on the back of his neck, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on his stomach.

“Mmm…” Ray stretched slightly, leaning back against Bodie and oh, make that three pleasant sensations. He rubbed his arse against the hot hardness pressing between his cheeks. “Is that a candy cane in your pocket or are you just happy t’see me?” he mumbled, voice sleep-rough.

Bodie’s chuckle rumbled against Ray’s back. “Why don’t you give it a lick and find out, eh?”

“Randy sod,” Ray smiled, turning over in Bodie’s arms to face him.

Bodie kissed him softly. “Mornin’, sunshine. Happy Christmas.”

Ray shook his head and buried it against Bodie’s chest, closing his eyes again, loathe to move from the cozy cocoon he was in. “Five more minutes.”

Bodie kissed Ray’s curls, his arms tightening around him briefly. “Tell you what,” he said. “Since you’re going to be whipping us up a Christmas feast later, let me go down and fix us up breakfast and you get a bit more kip.”

“Hmm…deal,” Ray murmured, feeling the lull of sleep calling to him.

Another smiling kiss and Bodie disentangled himself from Ray, replacing his body with a pillow for Ray to hold onto, tucking the duvet up around Ray’s shoulders.

One of Ray’s eyes popped open when he heard Bodie step out of the bedroom.

“A Swiss roll is not breakfast!” he warned him playfully.

His partner’s laughter echoed in the hall as Ray dropped back off to sleep, dreaming not of sugar plums, but candy canes and Swiss rolls.
