“No it’s not,” Bodie agreed, smirking. “I always say your best asset is your—”

“Thank you, 3.7,” Cowley interrupted, dryly, and turned his attention to both men. “It’s hardly a laughing matter. With the annual budget due for renewal next month, the last thing I need is a scandal to queer up the system.”

Bodie sniggered, which turned into a cough as he felt his boss’s eyes burn into him.

“There wasn’t a note with them, sir?” Doyle asked, ignoring Bodie in case he started giggling like the girl he most definitely wasn’t. He turned the envelope over in his hands, looking for some clue as to who could have sent it.

“No, that’s all there was. And there were no prints on anything either, before you ask,” Cowley replied, pre-empting Doyle’s next question. He went on, briskly, “You have one week, gentlemen, to find out who took these photographs and what they intend to do with them. All without bringing the department into disrepute any more than you usually do. I’ll have your IDs and armoury now.”

Five guns and two knives were deposited in the duffle bag Cowley held open, along with two CI5 IDs. He secured the bag and hesitated before holding out a hand.

“Good luck…. Doyle,” he said.

Surprised, Doyle looked at his partner and received a puzzled shrug in reply. He gripped the older man’s hand in a firm handshake. “Thank you, sir,” he managed to say.

Cowley turned to Bodie who took the proffered hand with some reluctance.

“Good luck, Bodie.”

“Thank you, sir.”

Doyle half expected to see a salute from the ex-Para, so rigid was his stance.

They watched the Old Man limp away to the red Granada that was waiting silently by the gates.

Bodie leaned into Doyle, shoulders brushing together.

“Did he just…?”

“Yeah, I think he did.”

“But he called me by my name,” Bodie said, incredulously, shaking his head. “Things are bad, mate.”

“Yeah.” Doyle looked around him. “I don’t know about you, but I feel kind of exposed—”

He caught sight of Bodie leering at his crotch, and finished off, “— without my gun.” He punched Bodie on the upper arm without malice. “You must have something stashed away somewhere?”

“Yeah. Rifles, a machine gun, one revolver. That’s all. We’ll need to get kitted out. Can you get your hands on some serious cash?”

Doyle nodded, frowning. “Where are we going?”

Bodie kept his face expressionless. “To see Marty Martell.”

OOh, this is intriguing!!! And Marty!!! Kewl!

Now, if I was at home I would claim the next part, but seeing as I'm not...I wont. Unless I get home and no one has claimed it...LOL

Those guys are a walking armoury. Or rather where. Too bad Cowley overlooked the "greeenades" *snickers* No - not claiming. I got other things to do today *winks at Drayce and wanders off in search of working material*

Not claiming, alas (have a zoic#2 birthday thing to sort out) but just wanted to say I am LOVING this so much - I'm sure this has already been said, but this will get compiled and archived at the end, won't it? Won't it?!?!? The story so far is brilliant! Applause and eager anticipation here!

Actually I didn't say it (and should have!) but yes, it'll be compiled and archived at the end! Of course I'm a little behind on compiling and archiving, but... it will! *g*

Yes, that's exactly what I intended with that emphasis! *eg*

Still love that "not a girl" bit. ♥

all I could think about was that bit in Doctor Who where naked Jack suddenly produces a gun

As Schnuffi is always saying about me, "don't encourage her!"

Fingers are itching but I cannot jump in to claim anything just yet as life is a little too busy today. But I am very much enjoying what folk have done so far - marvellous. So funny and entertaining.

Falling behind, Hambel. I've already established two of her boundary limits... nun's habits and Cowley.

Hi! *waves*

Just a suggestion, but if you're going to RR for the whole month of May, it might be a good idea to set a time limit on how long each segment can sit unclaimed before people who've already had a go can jump in... Maybe 24 hours? Just a thought. It's really easy to lose momentum on these things -- experience speaking here -- as they drop off people's flists...

Hi - well, I pretty much figured that was covered with:

If you fancy writing some more, wait until it seems as if everyone else who wants to has had a turn, and then feel free to claim another section.

I tend to trust in people's common sense - if no one's claimed for 24 hours (or even 12, perhaps 6 - depends how active the place looks) then feel free to claim away. If it ends up being completely written by just a few people, well, that's the nature of the beast!

It seems to be extra strangely quiet out there right now, Pros-lj-wise. The last round robin started off as open for just a couple of days, had a positive slew of entries, and ended up lasting a week or more. This one - like pulling teeth even to get the first response!

I know there could be lots of reasons, but I'm hoping it's not because people at a Pros Yahoo group were recently very critical of people writing shorter pieces for [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj and Pros in general. It could be that everyone's hiding and writing longer stories instead! Or it could just be one of those very very quiet times... I seem to be having one myself, in fact, due to up-in-the-air rl, although I'm trying, really I am... (very... *g*) so I'm not setting a very good example. It could be due to anything really. But please - have at it!

Actually, I got all curious, cos it is a bit puzzling how deathly quiet it is around here, so I did some checking. In the same timespan last round robin we had around twenty posts, this time there's only four! Ack! It might just be a quiet time for dialj, but... if you're interested, I've asked what people think about it over at [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq... See if anyone responds there!

Well I'm used to LJ slowing down around this time because of the Uni students all tucked up in exam weeks, but I don't know how much impact that would be having right now.

I also wonder if we didn't back ourselves into a plot corner really fast with the relationship confirmed... Not that I did anything to help create that situation *whistles*

I don't know how long that took last time... I could attempt to simplify, if you think that might help.

The complaints about the length of stories seems a little narrow minded.

It's not a good thing when Cowley shakes the lads' hands. Wonder what's up?

Thanks!
