May Day! Part Ten

Doyle rested his forehead on the steering wheel. What the hell had he done? Bodie had gone and practically given him a bloody ring with those keys. Bodie had pledged himself to Doyle with that gesture. Doyle knew he could be such an idiot sometimes!

Doyle sighed. "'I give you these keys as a token of my...' Of your what, Bodie?" he said softly. "Affection? Love? Bloody idiot that you are. Of course love! Bodie wouldn't say it right out, but he showed you, didn't he? And you panicked. Does Cowley and CI5 mean more to you than your best friend, your partner? Does your reputation? Don't want to be seen as a poof? Good God, you are a moron!"

Giving himself a firm inner shake, Doyle grabbed the door handle and climbed out. Bodie hadn't gone far and from the rigid set of his back, Doyle knew what he would get: a cold, efficient partner with ice chips for eyes. Nothing less than he deserved, but before this whole bloody mess was finally sorted out, Bodie would understand that he'd stuck his foot in it -- again. That he was sorry and hadn't meant a word. Spoken in anger. And even in a bit of a panic. He'd make Bodie understand how much they meant to each other, that they would figure this out together, and that they belonged in each others beds, and hearts as well. If it was the last thing he did.

Bodie'd heard his approach, because he spun on his heels and stared over Doyle's head. "Twenty minutes until the meet with Marty. Traffic to that part of town will be nasty, and Marty won't wait. I'll drive." He stuck out his hand and waited, a figure carved carved in cool, creamy granite. Hard, beautiful.

Doyle knew Bodie didn't want to hear any excuses or explanations, but he couldn't resist. "I'm sorry-"

Bodie snatched the keys from Doyle's fingers. "Hurry up. Bad enough you made me miss my lunch. If you fuck up again and make me miss my date tonight, there will be hell to pay."

I love this line - a figure carved in cool, creamy granite. Hard, beautiful. Such an apt description of Bodie at his coldest.

Is he worried about his date with Murph? Or does he have "another" date to go on?

Oh goodie - at least Doyle knows his priorities and is determined to make Bodie understand. He can be such a terrible klutz sometimes *sigh* Your description of Bodie is just perfect, especially the ice chips for eyes. They have to clarify the situation quickly as they can only succeed if they go through this together. Great part!

Ooh. Unless I'm remembering the details incorrectly -- always possible -- Bodie now has his spare lock-up keys back from Doyle. Weren't they on the ring with the Audi key? I hope someone else picks up on that detail!
