Christmas Past – A grab bag of icons…

This day you will be haunted by three posts...
Every Christmas the YMCA gave us kids toys. There was one bag for girls, and one for boys, and we’d line up in front of our respective bags in order to pick our present – thoughtfully addressed to “Girl, age 4-6,” or “Boy, age 4-6.”
The agony transcended description. Would the present be a tolerably entertaining Betsy Wetsy doll, or would it be a dried up watercolour set with half the paints fallen out of their little cups? I snuck into the boys’ line once, but did I get a cap gun? No, I got Playdoh! It was an early lesson on Life’s intrinsic unfairness.
However, this year’s Christmas grab bag is different. Help yourself! Take whatever appeals! There’s enough for everyone. It’s what I think Christmas grab bags should be...

Date: 2006-12-10 11:27 am (UTC)Man, my mind goes to *such* bad places every time I hear that! ;-)
Especially with Doyles "a bullet up your crankcase" response following right after.
Glad you liked my icons!

Date: 2006-12-10 11:20 am (UTC)I'm actually surprised at how many people are mentioning Cowley Warm & Considerate! I thought maybe I'd over done the aging effect on that one, but it seems to have come across all right.
And The Valley of Death is actually a quote from my drabble series. I remember thinking back then that I needed to turn it into an icon. I'm glad this gave me the excuse!

Date: 2006-12-10 12:49 pm (UTC)I think there are quite a few stories where one of the girls has a decent role - Firewalls is one, but there must be others. Worth starting a list, maybe...

Date: 2006-12-12 10:45 pm (UTC)Oh God I went somewhere very similar at Christmas when a kiddie – used to eye up the boys lucky dip as their presents were much better than ours (a doll, always a doll).
These icons are fab! And so pretty altogether… I have nabbed: Zzzz and ?! and three Cowley’s and Wtf and Eh? and the two Murphs and Shotgun Tommy telling us not to run – somehow the last makes me think of the Green Cross Code – can you imagine Tommy at that? ‘Don’t run as otherwise - BOOM’ :)
Thank you!

Date: 2006-12-12 11:38 pm (UTC)And lol at the idea of Tommy as a crossing guard! And the best part is, I bet he'd actually try very hard to be nice and still scare the bejeezus out of the kiddies.
