The Fragrance of Morning
Feb. 14th, 2009 05:06 pmWell, it turns out I didn't need that prompt after all...
The Fragrance of Morning
Bodie rubbed his eyes and turned over beneath the warm and reassuringly heavy duvet. The sights and smells and tastes of his activities with Doyle the night before were fresh in his mind, which felt pleasantly numb after a long and satisfying sleep. His mind lazily replayed their tender kisses in the shower, the desperately rushed fuck against the bathroom wall, the slower fellationes when they finally reached the bed, the hours they lay in each other’s arms talking softly or not at all.
But when Bodie opened his eyes, he saw that Doyle was not there with him. Nevertheless, he put out his hand, to feel the place where Doyle had been, still warm from his presence. “Ray?” he said aloud, wondering if he had had to go out early that morning. What date was it? The fourteenth, or something like that? Maybe he was needed at that stakeout on Rider Street with the drug ring.
And then, there it was: the unmistakeable smell of bacon. His favourite smell in the world. Instinctively, he slipped out of bed, and padded in his bare feet to the kitchen, not bothering to stop and put on his dressing gown. And there was Doyle, slaving over a hot pan.
Doyle turned round, and raised his eyebrows at Bodie’s nakedness. But then he just smiled and turned back to the cooking.
“I knew it was you getting up in the middle of the night and having secret fry-ups,” Bodie teased, coming closer and leaning over the cooker to enjoy the pungent smell of frying bacon and eggs and tomatoes and sausages. His hand played lightly over Doyle’s back and he was rewarded with a shiver. “You dark horse, Ray! All that nonsense about vitamins...”
“I might leave it half-cooked if you’re going to complain!” Doyle said, shooting a playful frown at his companion. “Now get a plate out and sit down. Oh no, sunshine, no need to put on any clothes first!”
They grinned at each other, and Bodie patted his bare stomach in anticipation of what was to come. As he sat down at the kitchen table, he decided that this must be what love is. And the next day, just maybe, he would reciprocate with an array of fruits and freshly squeezed juice for Doyle.
