Posting this tiny little ficlet right now, because I've a number of busy days ahead of me, and I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to finish the longer idea I had for my prompt, nevermind post it, on time.
Possibly a Wedding, with Cake
“A wedding,” he says, because that’s all he can say in the given circumstances, really, when one comes right down to it.
“A wedding,” cackles the reply: pleased, jovial, affirmative. “Invitations, flowers, cake, champagne. White for you, black for me. Cowley to give you away. Rings.”
“I’m not wearin’ – ”
“Of course, that’ll mean I won’t be able to see you for a bit. Groom can’t see the bride before the wedding, you know. ’s bad luck.” A thoughtful pause here. “Not sure if I’ll be able to stand it.”
“You’re daft, mate. You know that, don’t you? You’re an epic ballad of daft, a soap opera of daftness.”
“C’mon, sunshine. It'll be brilliant, it will. Don’t you want the world to know how much I love you?”
He refuses to even dignify that suggestion with a response.
“You did know I was joking, didn’t you?” is the whisper which eventually ghosts across his nape, each word a ticklish puff of warmth. Doyle does his best not to smile as he flattens his palm over the hand flattened over his belly; somewhere beneath his right ear is a broad smile carefully tucked away in the sensitive fold of skin above his neck and beneath his jaw.
“But I was serious about the rings.”

And I have my very own ideas, where they might wear the rings ...and that doesn't include fingers or nibbles ...ahem ...better take my coat now....

Date: 2016-06-07 01:22 am (UTC)I really like this, how you play around wit the prompt. (I'd already decided long ago I wanted to write like you when I grow up.) Just found the story, but wanted to thank you all the same - and I'm glad I got to share some of your fic, late or not.
