He smiled. Subtle in its effect, it crossed his mouth, twisting it into beauty unlit before;
travelled on to his eyes, slanting them with warmth. Lost, Doyle capitulated.

Hyperion to a Satyr
Sebastian

Bodie and Doyle --
multifaceted,
undeniably exquisite on screen and captivating in writing.

One portion of Bodie's uniqueness is his smile.
In his smiles, grins, smirks, beams (!) we see so much emotion -
his expressions of joy, menace, delight, regret, tenderness.
Like Doyle in Hyperion, we capitulate.

This 'project' began simply while reading, thinking to myself, "*That* is his smile, exactly!" and feeling awe at our writers' ability to capture things with such clarity and beauty. I decided to try and find some of those expressions on film, and find images which fit in some way with the words.

It's only Bodie's smiles, but I remind myself that part of the captivation in these smiles is born in Doyle's unique perception of Bodie - many of these smiles are either caused by Doyle or are shared - reciprocal - reflected between the two of them.

I don't think it's possible to capture all of Bodie's smiles. I've gathered these from a small portion of footage and from an even smaller porportion of the written words we have. I also know that a single frozen frame cannot hope to encapsulate the power and range of the written smiles, or of the onscreen smiles, but it's what I was able to work with. I wish that I had the talent with graphics that some of you have, too - I don't think I can do it justice, but I gave it a go. Limited only by time, not by desire, it's a start. Smile, it's Bodie!

Paris I'm absolutely gobsmacked and, just for a change, lost for words! These are all ab-sol-ute-ly beautiful, most of which are completely new to me, too. I began trying to remember my favourites so I could tell you about them and then gave up cos they're all wonderful. I suppose pluperfect favourites would be one in particular on the first page, Bodie in black with holster and on the same page, second line down, him with jacket and open-necked shirt (he's so cheeky and gorgeous), and I've always had a very soft spot for the scene in Hunter-Hunted when he's guarding Doyle's house at night and the laser travels over his face and you've captured that scene on the second to last page. This has actually made me much more aware of how many different kinds of smiles he has, so thank you for that!

I know I shall return to them again and again, and I will probably come back here once I've composed myself, stopped dribbling and *tried* to think of something more original to say. In the meantime, thanks so much for this wonderful contribution.
