The Stuff of Nightmares: Drabble
Apr. 2nd, 2010 01:54 pmFor Bodie it’s the Falls Road under a blistering African sun. There’s a rogue detonation, the silence of aftermath, the smell of fire and flesh. The victims could be anyone, garishly multiple or sad and singular. He always cares about them in the dream, in a way he never did at the time. He cares so bloody much and it seems so much more real now, that he sometimes cries. That, he thinks bitterly, is down to Doyle.
Nightmares can be illogical. He must remember that.
For Doyle it’s the door quietly closing on the person who’s never coming back.
