Discovered when we first met
May. 29th, 2011 10:23 pmI had the prompt of a tennis court, but I have to say that this is nothing about what happened on a tennis court and everything about what happened after... it's quite mini, an exact 400 words :)
Doyle had thought it a waste of his weekend. He thought this George Cowley had a bloody cheek demanding attendance at some poncey toffs’ do at the All England. Didn’t see why -- just because he’d signed on the dotted line -- he was expected to come and watch old soldiers knocking up in the sunshine and harumphing over their Pimms.
“You’re here to meet your new doubles partner,” Cowley had said, rather pleased with his joke.
Oh surely not. Not Colonel Bufton-Tufton’s protege over there, standing to attention against the dark-green canvas with his back ramrod straight and his hands behind him. Like an overgrown ball boy in a suit.
“I’m making the decisions,” Cowley had informed Doyle curtly, eyes narrowing as if he was already wondering whether the whole thing was going to prove an unexpected headache. When they were introduced, the army bloke swept off his sunglasses with a showy flourish. He’d raked Doyle with a glacial gaze and stuck out a hand.
Too confident, too army and too bloody good-looking. Doyle did no more than nod.
Hah. He hadn’t been a copper all these years without learning to trust his instincts.
*
Four years after that first serve and volley, they were still alive.
Bodie murmured something soppy, nosing into the warm neck under the curls.
Doyle felt morning desire flood through him as a hand slid over his stomach and wandered down to glide between his thighs. It stroked him until his toes curled against the sheets.
He rolled, luxuriating in the lips that immediately found his. Then he guided the close-cropped head in an unerring line down the centre of his chest and stomach, and squeezed shut his eyes the moment he slid between Bodie’s lips.
Too confident. Doyle fisted the sheets.
Too army. He pulled at whatever hair he could get a good grip on.
Too. Bloody. Good-looking.
He groaned in satisfaction at the release, loving every little particle of the man who then kissed his belly and crawled up to find his lips again, pressing something hard and hot against his ribs and grinning like an idiot.
Just as well he hadn’t been a copper all those years without learning that sometimes you just had to avoid your instincts like the plague.
“Knew I wouldn’t like you,” Doyle murmured.
“Yeah,” Bodie replied on a kiss. “I could always tell.”

What a great way for Doyle to notice NOT to trust his instincts!
Thank you
