Discovered in the Christmas Tree
Nov. 21st, 2011 03:26 pmSo! It's November 21st, and well past time to launch our annual (Sixth! Sixth Annual - can you believe it?!) Pros Christmas-Winter-Solstice-General-Celebration-of-Light-and-All-Around-Good-Excuse-To-Party challenge - Discovered in the Christmas Tree!
Discovered in the Christmas Tree is this year's Pros Christmas-Winter-Solstice challenge. If you'd like to participate (please, please do!) then all you need to do is choose a date, and then post something Pros-y and somehow seasonal on that day. It doesn't even have to be Christmas-y, it could just be winter-ish, or it could be related to one of the other festivals (even in the 1970s/80s there were people in the UK who would have been concerned with Hajj, for example). There is a prompt for each day of the challenge, if you'd like to use it - and simply click on your day to see the picture that goes with the prompt. Our artist this year is
gvenanne (hurrah, and thank you!), and you might be inspired by her banner or icon (we hope so, in general! Aren't they fun? *g*). You might even decide to be completely anti-Christmas (although a passing reference to fit into the comm would be nice) - or it could just be a present offered to any Pros fans passing through the comm… You can post as many times as you like too - the day you choose is all for you!
The hope is that people will receive something Pros in their flist (or by visiting the comm) every day leading up to Christmas, and even through and to the New Year! Obviously the more people who take part the better it will be, and the more days we will have something posted. Feel free to choose more than one day as well – though if you do it might be nice to space them apart a little, and to wait to choose your second date until it looks like everyone else has claimed their first day. We've managed to cover every day of the calendar for the last five years - and sometimes more - it'd be ace if we can do it again this year.
It doesn't have to be fic that's posted either (though that's always brill, obviously), it could be art, or icons or other graphics of course, but it could also be something completely different. Always wanted to set up your own Pros trivia quiz? Explain your version of how the lads would spend Christmas and why? Start a discussion about why Bodie adores winter and Doyle doesn't? Make up a Pros crossword puzzle? Post that scan you have of a pic no one else would see otherwise? Anything and everything Pros-y is welcome! In the past we've had all sorts of things - check out the other Christmas challenges via their banners on our User Info page if you'd like even more inspiration.
As ever, we're happy to post for you, if you'd rather not do it yourself for any reason (such as Christmas being a hugely busy time for many people). And if you'd like to offer "extra content" that can be slotted into days nobody has claimed that would be greatly received as well! You can contact me about that via the email addresses on our User Info page.
Please sign up as soon as possible (so that we can organise for whatever days appear to be empty etc) but feel free to sign up any time the comm is running – if you're suddenly inspired on 16th December to post on the 17th, and it's still an empty day, then comment below and go for it! We'll just save the extra content for another time... *g*
And if something disastrous happens, and you're not able to post on your chosen day, don't worry - stuff does happen - just email or comment somewhere to let me know so that I can arrange cover. Occasionally people have forgotten their chosen day, so if I've not seen anything appear and it's getting late in your time zone, I might send a quick email to check that everything's okay.
To sign up, please comment below with the date/s you would like to post or have your work/creation posted. We will then snag your icon (so choose the Pros-y one you like best - our only request is that you don't use an animated one, because it makes us dizzy... *g*) to block off those day/s for you on the calendar. Then all you need to do is post on that day! The icons on the calendar will then also become links to your post.
Finally - this is the only
discoveredinalj challenge that has a very specific time limit for posting, just because we have people posting from time zones all over the planet and it can get messy if they accidentally clash. Please make your post/s for the day in the Lads' Time - that is Greenwich Mean Time, which can be found here (including both current date and time). And again, if timing is difficult, then we're happy to post for you - just drop me an email.
Aaaand - I think that's everything! If I've forgotten something really vital, then do let me know, or if I've not explained something properly, or if you just want to know more. Now I'm going to cross my fingers, hit Post, and hope for lots of comments below... *g*

And I'd really like the paper chains if possible, so...
