This year I can think of nothing to really comfort a Pros fan.
So I thought I share my favourite winter movie with you.
You may ask, what the heck has that all to do with Pros? Well - sometimes Bodie and Doyle are
fooling around while I try to watch movies without them...

This special movie is called 'One Special Night', and has the beautiful German name
'Zauber einer WInternacht'(magic of a winter's night), which gets to the heart of the matter more nicely.
Because it IS a magical film! For me at least, since - let me guess - 8 or 9 years?
Somewhere along the line between mid-November and Christmas I have to watch it, or there would be
something missing in my life.
Why's that?
Well first of all there are James Garner and Julie Andrews in it. Not much chance to be a bad movie then, isn't it?

The beginning of the film is a visual celebration of this time of year. The music is sweet and melancholic,
and we wander together with JA and JG through a snowy, romantic town which is already lovingly
decorated for Christmas, though it's Thanksgiving evening.

She is a very capable cardiac specialist for children, he is a construction contractor.
She has recently lost her husband because of cancer(...), he visits his wife in a hospice because
she slips more and more into her own world...
That's where they meet the evening of a bad snow blizzard.
What follows is IMO far from any cheesy, plain vanilla romance!
Because both are very independent individuals, and both aren't looking for a new partner.
They live their own lives.

At the beginning of their acquaintance they really fight each other, they are snappy and repulsing.
JA is 'a woman who has given up on being one', and JG is in fact a 'male chauvinist'(when Catherine
offers Robert a trip in her car, he honestly asks her if he should drive...*g*).
But all that isn't oppressive at all! It's nonetheless witty and heartwarming!
No at the beginning there is no romance. In fact they talk about their partners, while fixing dinner in a cottage
they found as shelter from the blizzard. Of necessity they spend the night there talking, playing
Scrabble and sleeping on the sofa.

Sigh!
The story is not easy! It's about life and death. About family. About love, loneliness and independence.
It's about new chances. About separation and trust and responsibility. You can have it all if you want.
And there are brilliant minor characters as well! This is Robert's son-in-law.

And you have tons of atmosphere - if you love snow that is. ;-)

I could go on and on talking about this movie - but you should really watch it for yourself!
For a first glimpse, and if you don't mind the bad quality, you can watch it here:

Of course I would never spoil you with the end! No way!

I really hope that at least a few of you'll like 'One Special Night'.
Enjoy the season! :-)
