Well, there's no getting away from it this time - Discovered In The Mistletoe has finally come to an end. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed, and made the Challenge even better than we'd ever imagined it could be (and we've got good imaginations *g*). People have been incredibly generous with their time and their talents and skills, and dialj has been the most wonderful place to hang around for the last six weeks. As ever, the stories and other creations can still be found here, and the quickest way to get to them is through the picture-link on the User Info Page.

We're going to leave you with a final party favour, which we hope you like, so do peek under the cut...

One Last Thing In The Mistletoe:

DIALj Bound: Discovered On A Gangplank

The link above will take you to the zine information page for a pdf file of all the stories and art contributed to the first ever Dialj Challenge - Discovered On A Gangplank. When we were first thinking about creating the Dialj comm, we had all sorts of ideas and wonderings, and one was that instead of having to print out all the fic separately it would be nice to have everything in one place at the end of a challenge, as a sort of... well as a sort of online zine that people could download and print out, and curl up in bed with on the long cold, snowy nights. Okay, that last bit was clearly me, and as I danced around in excited keyboarding in the middle of Starbucks, Josey eyed me sternly over the internet and suggested that maybe we wait and see if anyone would like to come play with us at all before we got carried away. Which was a very good point. But they did. And it's a good game. So this is the first of those DIALj Bound zines.

It's not fancy, and it's not glamorous, but we like it. (And there will be curling up involved. *g* Well, there's definitely snow outside...) The fic is exactly as it originally appeared in the Challenge, there has been no editing by anyone other than the authors. No doubt the layout will change and perhaps improve with practice. Comments and feedback are always welcome.

Of course not everybody has access to a printer, and so as an experiment I'll offer to print and post at cost issues of the zine to anyone who'd like one. I don't know how much at cost will be yet, and it will vary depending on where you live and postage! But the DIALj zines are not meant to be bought or sold, they are simply online files and potential hard copies of what the authors, artists and other creators have given freely to the Professionals fandom community. If anyone would like to talk about this, then do email me via the information on the User Info Page.

[EDIT TO ADD: Of course I forgot summat - knew I was... We have permission from contributors to the first three dialj challenges to include their work in DIALj Bound - could contributors to Discovered In The Mistletoe possibly indicate below, or email me, to let us know whether or not you give permission to include your work in that volume please? If you've already said it's okay to include you for other challenges, you don't need to let us know again! Thanks!]

You may notice that the link takes you to a zine info page that is part of a larger website. This is something I've been fiddling around with for well over a year now. It's always going to be a work in progress - although I hope it will progress quite quickly until the pages are mostly full! - but since we're sending people there for their party favours, feel free to have a wander round. Some rooms are quite full, others (such as the author listings) are still very echo-y... But if it might be useful and/or interesting to anyone other than myself well that'll be a bonus. *g* And contributions/information/feedback is very welcome - feel free to email me directly about that too, or to the link provided on the site.

Of course this isn't the end forever... Discoveredinalj will be posting more challenges, so keep your eyes peeled and your typing fingers poised towards the end of January. And I am reliably informed that the rest of the year is bubbling over with things to tickle your fancy and stimulate your desperately overworked muses. *g*

And we've always got the lads, right?

Happy 2007 everyone. And thanks again. *g*

What can I say?
Apart from the thanks a million, to you both and to everyone who has taken part in Discovered in the Mistletoe - its been a ball!
And what a way to finish. Or squee! Or - big hugs and a big wet kiss for both of you - okay, I might be getting carried away here but wow and thank you and, well, I think I have a spare printer cartridge somewhere ...
Seriously, what a great way to finish - I just might not get to bed tonight, while I remind myself about that first challenge!
Snuggles up in chair to enjoy.....

I am so happy and impressed at how this project stimulated creativity from such a variety of sources. As probodie says, it's wonderful to see so much activity in the fandom. Thank you both for devoting your time and energy to keep us all entertained. And kudos to all who contributed - such a talented group of people!

The website is brilliant! What an undertaking! It's already a good resource and can only get better.

Thank you from me too. Anyone who follows The Professionals not only good tastes, but also are extremely talented as has been evident by the Mistletoe contributions.

Diuscoveredinalj is a wonderful community to be a member of.

What a wonderful finale! The PDF zine's a terrific idea; it'll be great to have a nice hard copy version of each challenge (and I'd be honoured to have my story included when you come to do the mistletoe challenge). Talking of which, I've already enthused like mad about this one, but one more time can't hurt *g*. It's been wonderful. Thank you, everyone, for making December (and January!) such fun. And thank you, again, [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight and [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors for the idea and all the behind-the-scenes hard work. I've really enjoyed this. Can't wait to see what the January challenge is going to be...

Off to download...

Yay for good ideas! I like the PDF zine--it looks fabulous--and I've thoroughly enjoyed the challenges so far, especially the Mistletoe one. I was dead impressed by all the creativity--from songvids to songlists to art to incredible graphics to games and stories. Thank you to everyone who participated, and to the organizers. And I just want to add thanks to the people who contributed comments. That's giving a gift back to the creators, and it is deeply appreciated.

What a great idea! It's always been my biggest gripe about the internet, and LJ in particular, that the stories I love are so often formatted in a non-user friendly fashion. This is a perfect solution!

Echoing all the above - thanks to byslanted light and empty mirrors for making it seem so effortless to organise( when I'm sure it wasn't), and thanks to all the creative fans out there, who rekindled the idea of an advent calendar for me. *g* I'm relatively new to Pros and I have to say, it's a tremendously satisfying fandom to be part of. So, festive garlands all round, methinks...

Warmest thanks as well from me Slantedlight and Empty Mirrors, it has been a treat to be part of this challenge, be made to feel so welcome and to get such lovely feedback. It really has been a lovely way of bringing everyone together and I'd like to say to other people reading this without an LJ that the water is warm and the people inviting - take the plunge and join in for next time, it is so well worth it! And my you ladies have been busy - I have already downloaded that zine and it’s lovely! Now I need to find a way to make my copy of 'Dialj Bound' bound! What a beautiful way to end this challenge by giving a gift!

Thank you to everyone who has taken part as well, have thoroughly enjoyed every day of this calendar – it is brilliant to see how creative everyone is. And that calendar of icons is so pretty! Until next time...Take care all!

I'll add my thanks too - it was great to have something new to look forward to each day throughout December and for a short time afterwards, and much appreciated. The range of offerings was impressive, as was the standard!

I did email to say I'm happy for my story to be included in the pdf (what a brilliant idea!), but will confirm it here as I'm not sure you got the email.

Ah well, y'see...Should've known that there'd be a good reason why I never did manage to find the time to read anything in the Discovered In A Gangplank challenge - and here it is! A new zine!

This is a brilliant idea, and one which bows to the fact that so much excellent fiction these days is being posted online rather than being published in zines. It's something which zine-lovers like myself have had mixed feelings about up to now, but look at what we've got - the best of online Pros fic and a zine to curl up with...(yes, [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight, the curl-up factor is a BIG factor *grin*)

Just want to add a huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight and [livejournal.com profile] empty_mirrors for all your work on the Mistletoe challenge. Sorry to be one of the annoying buggers who let you down. Maybe if I start next year's Christmas challenge story now...

What a fantastic idea with the zine, it looks brilliant (and the web site, too) !!
Many thanks and big hugs to all who contributed and organised the challenge.
That was an impressing variety of wonderful Pros goodies.
