...the annual

discoveredinalj Christmas/Winter/Solstice/Let-there-be-light December challenge!

First of all, thank you to

snailbones this year, for her wonderful work on the Challenge banner and icon - aren't they pretty? (See the banner full-size and in its proper layout over at

And here is the calendar for this year's challenge, hopefully awaiting many sign ups...

Discovered on a Silent Night is this year's Pros Christmas-Winter-Solstice-December-celebration challenge. The calendar above represents December - and January, until Twelfth Night, when all decorations have to be taken down - and each day is a day that is given to a Pros fan - maybe you! - to post whatever Pros-y thing they like to the comm. This means that on every single day of the calendar there will be something Pros-y in our flists - hurrah!

If you'd like to participate (please do!) then all you need to do is comment below to choose a date, and then post something Pros to the Discoveredinalj comm on that day. It doesn't have to be Christmas-y (although that's always fun), it could be winter-ish, or December-ish, or it could be related to another festival this month (even in the 1970s/80s there were people in the UK who might have celebrated Bodhi day, for example). *g* Maybe you'd like to remind us that not all the world is cosying up away from the cold winter days in December. *g* You might even decide to be completely anti-Christmas - or your contribution could just be a Pros-y present offered to any Pros fans passing through the comm… You can post as many times as you like on your day too - the day you choose is all for you!

If you'd like a prompt, our theme this year is of course Silent Night, and each day has a word from the carol to inspire you - or you could pop over to

discoveredinalj and take another look at Snailbone's Challenge banner and icon for inspiration.

The hope is that people will receive something Pros-y in their flist (or by visiting the comm) every day in December leading up to Christmas. Obviously the more people who take part the better it will be, and the more days we will have something posted. For seven years it's run from 1st December - 6th January, and filled every day, so here's crossing fingers for this year. I cut it back last year to end on the 31st of December, but let's see what happens in 2014 (if there's not enough people or content then I might ask you to scrunch up to another date, just so we don't have empty days).

You don't have post fic of course (though that's always brill, obviously), it could be art, or icons or other graphics, but it could also be something completely different. Always wanted to set up your own Pros trivia quiz? Explain your version of how the lads would spend Christmas and why? Start a discussion about why Bodie adores winter and Doyle doesn't? Make up a Pros crossword puzzle? Post that scan you have of a pic no one else would see otherwise? Anything and everything Pros-y is welcome! In the past we've had all sorts of things - check out the other Christmas challenges via their banners on our User Info page if you'd like even more inspiration.

As ever, I'm happy to post for you, if you'd rather not do it yourself for any reason (such as Christmas being a hugely busy time for many people). And if you'd like to offer "extra content" that can be slotted into days nobody has claimed that would be received with great thanks as well! You can contact me about that via the email address on the User Info page.

Please sign up as soon as possible (so that I can organise for whatever days appear to be empty etc) but feel free to sign up any time the comm is running – if you're suddenly inspired on 16th December to post on the 17th, and it's still an empty day, then comment below and go for it! I'll just save the extra content for another time... *g* And if sign-ups have slowed down, and you have more ideas that you'd like to post on extra days, then you're very welcome to claim another day or two as well (I just ask that you hang on for multiple sign-ups until it looks like most people who are going to have claimed a day).

If something disastrous happens, and you're not able to post on your chosen day, don't worry - stuff does happen - just email or comment somewhere to let me know so that I can arrange cover. Occasionally people have forgotten their chosen day, so if I've not seen anything appear and it's getting past time in your time zone, I might send a quick email to check that everything's okay.

To sign up, please comment below with the date/s you would like to post or have your work/creation posted. I will then snag your icon (so choose the Pros-y one you like best - although please don't use an animated one, because too many of them in one calendar is dizzy-making... *g*) to block off those day/s for you on the calendar. Then all you need to do is post on that day! The icons on the calendar will then also become links to your post.

Finally - this is the only

discoveredinalj challenge that has a very specific time limit for posting, just because we have people posting from time zones all over the planet and it can get messy if they accidentally clash. Please make your post/s for the day in the Lads' Time - that is Greenwich Mean Time, which can be found here (including both current date and time). And again, if timing is difficult, then we're happy to post for you - just drop me an email.

Aaaand - I think that's everything! If I've forgotten something really vital, then do let me know, or if I've not explained something properly, or if you just want to know more. Now I'm going to cross my fingers, hit Post, and hope for lots of comments below... *g*

According to all the supermarkets I'm late for Christmas, but since it wasn't even Halloween, never mind Bonfire night when they had their stuff out, I think this timing isn't too bad... *g*

You know it'd be nice to see you join in again too, I always enjoyed your trivia quizzes very much! And of course there are all those lovely Visions posts. Can I tempt you with a date..?
