Discovered in the Holly and the Ivy
Nov. 15th, 2015 08:01 pmIt's that time of year again - mid-November...
...and ten whole years ago
empty_mirrors and I sat on opposite sides of the world and wondered if anyone would join in a Pros Christmas/Solstice/Winter/Let-there-be-light type of challenge... *g* Ten years ago! My partner in crime sadly (for me) moved on to other things, but
discoveredinalj is still going - and here we are again. And yet again I'm wondering if anyone would like to join in... *g*
After wondering and puzzling, I decided to be inspired by our very first Christmas challenge - Discovered in the Mistletoe - and chose the Holly and the Ivy for the theme this year. It's about rising and running and playing with merry organs, and even about prickles and blood and dying - actually rather Pros-y, I thought. And it's greenery, and celebrating the cycles, and I thought that was what we were doing here at the comm too.
I've mucked together a placeholder banner, but our tenth anniversary Discoveredinalj artist is the fabulous
minori_k, and this year her banner is going to kick us off on the 1st December. Until then, it's a mystery - but it's the tenth anniversary banner, and being
minori_k, it's going to be something special, and I can't wait to see it... *g* Until then though - it's sign-up time!
Discovered in the Holly and the Ivy is our Pros Christmas-Winter-Solstice challenge. If you'd like to participate (please, please do!) then all you need to do is choose a date (and let us know which one in the comments!), and then post something Pros-y and somehow seasonal on that day! And it doesn't have to be Christmas-y, it could just be winter-ish, or it could be related to one of the other festivals (even in the 1970s/80s there were people in the UK who would have been concerned with Hajj, for example). It might be inspired by the prompt on the calendar day you choose - or not. It might even be completely anti-Christmas (although a passing reference to fit into the challenge would be nice)! But it could just be a present offered to any Pros fans passing through the comm…
The hope is that people will receive something Pros in their flist (or by visiting the comm) every day leading up to Christmas, and even through and to the New Year! Obviously the more people who take part the better it will be, and the more days we will have something posted. If you'd like to post on more than one day that would be ace too - but please claim days one at a time, and wait until it looks like most other people have claimed before choosing a second (third, fourth... *g*) one.
It doesn't have to be fic that's posted (though that's always brill, obviously), it could be art, or icons or other graphics of course, but it could also be something completely different. Always wanted to set up your own Pros trivia quiz? Explain your version of how the lads would spend Christmas and why? Start a discussion about why Bodie adores winter and Doyle doesn't? Make up a Pros crossword puzzle? Post that scan you have of a pic no one else would see otherwise? Anything connected to our lads!
As ever, we're happy to post for you, if you'd rather not do it yourself for any reason (such as Christmas being a hugely busy time for many people!) And if you'd like to offer "extra content" that can be slotted into days nobody has claimed, or if someone has a disaster and can't fill their day after all, that would be greatly appreciated too as well! Drop me an email at my address on the User Info page.
Please sign up as soon as possible (so that we can organise for whatever days appear to be empty etc) but feel free to sign up any time the comm is running – if you're suddenly inspired on 16th December to post on the 17th, and it's still an empty day, then comment below and go for it!
To sign up, please comment below with the date/s you would like to post or have your work/creation posted. We will then snag your icon (please make it a Pros one, and not an animated one otherwise the calendar makes us dizzy... *g*) to block off those day/s for you on the calendar. Then all you need to do is post on that day! The icons on the calendar will then also become links to your post.
We do ask that you use GMT (lads' time) when you post, and post between midnight and midnight lads' time on your day - this is just because, with people all over the world posting, times and posts can get tangled otherwise. This time converter is helpful if you're not sure.
If you'd like to see how it's worked in previous years, you can find links to all the comm challenges on the user info page - simply click on the banner and you will be taken to all the entries with the challenge tag. If you find the challenge calendar, you'll be able to click on any day to see what was posted. *g* And there are nine other Christmas/Solstice/Winter challenges to explore and be inspired by! (Did I mention that it's our tenth anniversary this year? *vbg*)
If I've missed out anything vital, or you have any questions, the do let me know in the comments - and otherwise, sign-ups are open, for the tenth anniversary Pros Christmas/Solstice/Winter
discoveredinalj challenge!
(And if you're very good, you might recognise that calendar backing as the very first Discovered in the Mistletoe calendar, as designed by
empty_mirrors... *g*)

Date: 2015-11-18 07:56 pm (UTC)I'm guessing you haven't got an lj, but if you have an icon somewhere else that you'd like me to use, you could either email it to me (my email is on the user info page) or else post it as a picture in a reply (should be the second-from-right icon in the reply window, the one that's supposed to be a framed picture. *g*) Or I can use a random Christmas-y Pros icon for you, if you'd rather.
And if you'd like to write a BD story, and would like someone to beta it before you post (give it a quick read-through/check) then I'm happy to do that for you too - again, just email me at the address on the User Info/Profile page. *g*
