Date: 2016-12-25 10:23 am (UTC)This is indeed the very card the lads sent out, that first holiday after they finally both realised they were actually together (it took a while to sink in) *g* ... and then they didn't exactly plan things, not at first, but after a bit they were spending practically every night at one of theirs or t'other, and, well, it was surprising how well that worked ... Bodie had been so sure he'd want a bolt-hole of his own sometimes and Doyle hadn't said so but secretly he'd been certain he would, and it kind of crept up on them that they had more than enough space apart anyway, what with sky-diving (Doyle was more interested in learning to drive the thing than jumping out of it while it was still going) and painting (Bodie felt he had to show an interest for a while, but it wasn't long before it was quite clear that with Ray refusing point-blank to be distracted, if there wasn't a beer and a bit of sun to fall asleep in he got mind-numbingly bored ... though not as much as Doyle did that one time he dragged himself along to the cricket, seriously no way is that an actual game it has to be some kind of a joke) and that apart from a few rough edges (some people's, um, idiosyncratic standards of neatness (Bodie) or state-of-the-kitchen (Doyle) can take a bit of adjusting to) they never did feel crowded after all, despite all expectations, and before they knew it they were ... deciding to send out a card, and having one hell of a laugh wondering about people's reactions when they opened it. Some were fine with it (Fisher kept her copy; so did Murphy), some weren't (their loss, mate) and Cowley ... refused ever to admit that the settled nature of it all had in fact come as a surprise to him. One has a reputation for perspicacity and imperturbability to maintain, after all.
Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

Date: 2016-12-25 10:41 am (UTC)Of course Doyle would prefer to drive the plane instead of jumping out of it while it was still going *g*
And I love his seriously no way is that an actual game comment on the cricket (because he's got a point, you know!)
Oh! Oh! And how I love to think of Bodie trying to distract Ray from his painting in the early days... *vbg*
Thank you SOO MUCH for this wonderful backstory to the lad's first Christmas card!
Merry Christmas, dear! :-)

Re: What a picture!
Date: 2017-01-01 05:27 pm (UTC)I've been on a bit of a medieval jag of late, hence the frame. The snowflakes were just because it's Christmas. :-)
