And a Covid New Year
by The Hag
"So bloody fed up with masks," Doyle grumbled. "And now they're talking about a fourth shot for us decrepit old vulnerables. More holes than arm soon."
"Need to get some of that horse stuff the Americans are so keen on," Bodie suggested. "Used to bellyache about having to turn out for the princess's New Year's Eve parties so silver lining, right?"
"Don't know if she'll still be dishing out the bonus next year, so don't go splurging. The kids Zooming lessons and all. Fancy a cuppa before we switch on for the fireworks? Or a nice swig of bleach?"
"You making it? The pests won't let me move." Bodie, ensconced on the sofa, reached for his glass. Castor and Pollux, ensconced on Bodie, looked aggrieved at the disturbance. Castor shed a few extra hairs by way of protest. "Any of that cake left?"
"Obesity's a risk factor, you know."
"Everything's a risk factor. Especially breathing, but I'm not giving that up in a hurry." Pollux yawned widely and Bodie averted his face. "Wish he would. Don't they make anti-halitosis cat food?"
"Need to get their teeth checked when the vet's open again. Ours too, come to think of it."
"Not letting the vet near my teeth, mate, what's left of them. Come on, let's be having this cup of kindness."
"You'll have to do the cocoa, then."
"Don't forget the cake."
"How about a liver sausage sandwich for auld lang syne?"
"Auld Lang can have it. And if you want to live to see the New Year in — "
"Shakin' in me slippers all the way, sir."
The cats thudded to the floor in pursuit of Doyle and the hope of a few morsels of tasty kindness to make their new year happy.

Date: 2022-01-08 03:32 pm (UTC)Sorry — at the moment I am totally baffled by the interface. It was an uphill struggle to post in the first place and I can't seem to get at anything useful, let alone find the actual entry. I wish I could get back to the "old" version but there doesn't seem any way to do that and I guess it was no longer working anyhow. I'll try again later.

Date: 2022-01-14 10:45 am (UTC)I know my very old-style lj intermittently pops up in the new style and asks me if I want to use that as the default - but I can click on my friends feed in my old menus (not my icon-menu) and it takes me back to my old style. But as you say...!
