We'll find her
by macklingirl
It was five o'clock in the morning when Mr Cowley asked his two best agents to come and see him in his office. That alone, asking them and not ordering them to come, was a novelty for them.
"What do you think, Ray? If he's ill?" Bodie wondered. "Don't know, mate. Could be. Or it is something like our Christmas assignment two years ago." Doyle mused.
When they entered Cowley's office he sat at his desk with a picture in his hand. "Oh, there you are", he said without looking at them. "I'm sure you remember my goddaughter Phylis Smyth-Stockington?" Bodie and Doyle looked at each other and Doyle mouthed "Told you" while Bodie grinned and whispered, "Oh no, not again."

At that, Cowley looked at them. "It's not funny, Bodie. Phylis has been missing for the last five days and her father asked me to send you two to find her. They own a little wooden hut in the highest mountains of Scotland and he thinks she and her boyfriend might be there."
"Oh," Bodie said and tried to suppress his grin. "Is there a reason why she should leave her warm and cozy home and run up north into the cold and snow?"
"Yes, indeed there is, Bodie. She's pregnant and her parents are not very fond of her boyfriend. So she ran away. And you better find her" Cowley said and gave them a piece of paper with the location of the hut.
Doyle looked at his boss and saw how concerned he was. "Don't worry, Sir. We'll find her. Remember, it's Christmas time and that's the time for miracles." With that, they left the office and were on their way up north.
They started very early the next morning (it was only three a.m.) and drove with only two short brakes until they reached Steall Waterfall Car Park at the foot of Ben Nevis.
"We will never find her up there", Bodie said. "Oh, don't you worry, Bodie. We will find her. Remember the Christmas stories from your childhood. The twinkling star was the guide for the three kings." And Doyle started walking. After three and a half hours of walking through the snow, Ray looked up into the sky and shouted "Look there, Bodie! The twinkling star!"

He ran to the hut and when he came back he said "I told you, we'll find her. Oh, and her friend and a little baby boy too."
"Oh", Bodie said, "I'll go and call for an ambulance, then."
End.

A Christmas story
Date: 2023-12-12 09:36 pm (UTC)Thanks for posting the story. Loved that picture of the boys in the snow. I wonder how an ambulance could get to that hut with all that snow.

Hmm, I think you're right. Maybe Bodie should have called for a helicopter. *g*
I think that'll be the answer he's getting from the station when he orders an ambulance. *vbg*
