I'm hoping to make a proper post later today (possibly much later today...) but to start with - Happy Winter Solstice (and of course Summer Solstice for anyone down under *g*)!
It's still dark, as I write this at 7.29am, but the sun will rise soon on the shortest day of the year, and then it's all returning light after that! *g*
For this first post at the start of the shortest day, I have found some Winter Solstice stories, for a Winter Solstice Story List!
Holly Golly by Asymphototropic (in ProsLib)
In Hot Water: an Idyll by JM (in ProsLib)
The Longest Shortest Day by Slantedlight
Ordinary Magic: A Tale of the Winter Solstice by Mizelle (in ProsLib)
Perfect Alignment by Slantedlight
Red Christmas by Cassie Ingaben
This was just a quick search, and I'm sure there must be more, so please do suggest stories, and I'll add them to the list. And otherwise - happy reading! *g*

Date: 2023-12-25 04:45 pm (UTC)I am anxious to read all of these, but until I post on Jan 27, I'm waiting to read these stories. I am so concerned about my post. Since it's 20 pages long, should I do an lj cut (if I can remember how to do so). Thanks again for all the links.
RE: Thanks
Date: 2023-12-25 11:21 pm (UTC)Please don't worry about your post - and don't forget that I can post it for you, if that would make it easier. *g*
Do please use an lj-cut though, for a long story. If you use this code (but deleting the asterisks) then it will create an lj-cut:
<*lj-cut text="Title of Story"*>.
Hope that helps, and I shall look forward to your story on the 27th! I'm hoping to catch up on my reading in the next few days too!
Re: Thanks
Date: 2023-12-26 01:07 am (UTC)Thanks for the info about the lj-cut. I plan to post early in the morning so if I make a mistake, I can try it again later on. Thanks for the help.
Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 03:03 am (UTC)I cannot figure out how to post. I've got a draft set up with the lj-cut, but I can't figure out how to post it. It doesn't look anything like what I'm used to. Can you tell me how to get to the form like I'm typing on so that I can post. I hit post and it just creates a draft, but doesn't go anywhere else. I am so stupid. Help!
RE: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 08:12 am (UTC)You're not stupid at all - lj's updated various places since we all started using it, and when you've not used it for a while it can look confusing again! I think the easiest thing might be to just cut and paste your story into
1 - go to this page: https://discoveredinalj.livejournal.com/profile
2 - It should look like this (but with your name, not mine!) and you should see a link to "Post", which I've drawn an arrow to!
3 - Make sure you're on the tab in the top right of the posting window that says "HTML" rather than "Visual Editor"
4 - Cut and paste your story into that posting window.
5 - Add the cut tag — make sure you delete the asterisks I put in it!
And hopefully that should work!
Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 08:38 am (UTC)My page after hitting POST does not go to the HTML or Visual page at all. It keeps going to the page with Title and not allowing me anywhere to hit a button to post. It posted the story on my LJ page (longstrt) but doesn't allow me to post to the community page.
RE: Re: Help!

Can you send me a screenshot of the page you're trying to post from?
Oh - or if you like I can just copy and paste it from your own lj to Dialj myself, and post on your behalf?
Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 08:54 am (UTC)I don't know how to do that. I'm one step above the primordial ooze when it comes to computers and posting. I just don't understand. The page you showed on your screenshot, looks nothing like mine when I go to that URL. It's been hours and I can't seem to get to the posting page like the one I'm typing on now. I can't even originate a message on this site, I have to wait for you to post so I can reply to you, otherwise I can't do anything because there's no mechanism to post the draft.
RE: Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 08:58 am (UTC)It sounds like your lj might have been updated to the "modern" version - I think this happens when they've not been used for a while. Every now and then they try to do it to me, and I switch back to my nice old-fashioned version!
Would you like me to just post for you? I can copy your story from your own lj, and post to Dialj on your behalf.
Re: Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 09:03 am (UTC)Yes, I would love you to post it. I don't even know what you mean by modern version. This page I'm typing on says Back to the Old Field and you can go to the modern field. Is that what you mean? I told you at the beginning that I didn't seem to recognize this format of the lj. Maybe that's what happened.
RE: Re: Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 09:12 am (UTC)Hmmn — if your page says "Back to the Old Field", that sounds like it's put you in the modern field. Try clicking on "Back to the old" and see what happens? It might look more recognisable!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 09:22 am (UTC)Thanks so much; I really appreciate your help. The Old Field has the html markings around the sentences is the only thing I notice, but there could be other things, I guess. Shows you how long it's been since I've used lj.
Re: Re: Help!
Date: 2023-12-27 09:00 am (UTC)I would love to have you post it. Can you get to my lj so you can copy and paste. I have trouble even getting to that but I did notice that the story was on there (I think) but it was so long ago now that I saw it, I could have dreamt that. Besides I don't think the lj cut on there is correct.
