A CI5 Christmas Party
a Rainlads ficlet
by macklingirl
Prologue:
No one could have predicted that, so close to Christmas, there would suddenly be an increase in attacks on breweries and off-licence shops. And no one claimed responsibility for these attacks. And suddenly, out of nowhere, they had a lead that took them to a warehouse belonging to one of London's largest spirits suppliers. They arrived just as a frenzied horde of overly Christian youths were running through the warehouse, shooting wildly. They were able to arrest them all, but now none of them could stand the smell of alcohol. And that at Christmas.

"I have an idea, Ray", Bodie said with a sigh. "Why don't we celebrate in our café? It could be a quiet party, with a little present for everyone."

"Oh, I love the idea. But you have to be Santa Bodie", Ray answered with a smile and kissed him.

They invited every fellow agent to Ray's Coffee/Bodie's Bar, and even Mr Cowley said he would love to come. When they all arrived, only Ray was waiting for them.

"Hi, Ray, where's Bodie?" Anson asked. "I thought he would be here with you.

"He'll be a little late; he has something to do first. And he has a task for you. Each of you must either recite a poem or sing a Christmas carol. Otherwise, there will be no presents." Ray answered with a grin. "What do you think, Ruth? Would you like to sing a carol? Or recite a poem?"

"Oh no, not me," Ruth said, laughing. "I don't know any carols or poems."

"I don't believe you, everyone knows at last one carol," Ray said

When even Mr Cowley and Miss Walsh started telling her she should sing, she turned and sang "God rest ye, merry gentlemen"

1. God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Saviour
Was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray:
O tidings of comfort and joy,
comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy.

2. In Bethlehem, in Jury,
This blessed Babe was born,
And laid within a manger
Upon this blessed morn,
The which His Mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn:
O tidings …

3. From God our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came,
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same,
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name:
O tidings …

4. The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoicéd much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind,
And went to Bethlehem straightway,
This blessed Babe to find:
O tidings …

5. But when to Bethlehem they came,
Whereat this Infant lay,
They found Him in a manger,
Where oxen feed on hay;
His mother Mary kneeling,
Unto the Lord did pray:
O tidings …

6. Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All others doth deface:
O tidings …

And they all listened in silence till the end.

The moment Ruth finished her carol, the door to the bar opened, and Santa Bodie stepped inside, carrying a sack full of presents.

"Hohoho, have you all been naughty or nice?" he asked with a profound voice.

"I heard you sing this wonderful carol, dear Ruth. And I have a present for you." Bodie walked over to the Christmas tree, picked up one of the presents that lay beneath the tree and gave it to her.

Anson started laughing and nearly fell from the stool. "Oh, he's so funny", he said to Doyle. "I really can't stop laughing."

After twenty minutes and some poems, every agent had got his present, except Mr Cowley. They could all see what Santa Bodie had in his sack, but none of them dared to say anything. Mr Cowley cleared his throat.

"Yes, Mr Cowley? You have something to say?" Santa Bodie asked.

"Ah, yes," Mr Cowley said. "Nollaig Chridheil agus Bliadhna Mhath Ùr*."

"And to you, too," all agents said in unison.

Bodie gave the bottle of Laphroaig to Mr Cowley, who had small tears in his eyes

Three hours later, when all their friends had gone home, Doyle looked first at Bodie and then up to the ceiling and said, "We're standing under the mistletoe, my love."

And they finished the day with a kiss.

End.

* Nollaig Chridheil agus Bliadhna Mhath Ùr means Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Sorry, LJ don't like me at the moment. I can't put the carol under a cut (maybe LJ-cut inside an LJ-cut don't work) and I can't delete any of the verses. If I try that, LJ deletes everything beneath. So you have to have the full carol

That was very cute - got to love a happy Cowley, too! Thank you! *g*

(You can't do an lj-cut inside an lj-cut, you have to do multiple lj-cuts — end one, and then start the next one. So you could end the lj-cut just before the carol, then start and end another lj-cut around the carol, if that makes sense! *g*)
