Deaf in the Afternoon
Doyle's ears rang. They hurt with the ringing, they screamed in unison with the ringing, until his head pounded counterpoint and his heart thrummed nearly and his nerves stretched to their limits. Too much noise, in the un-sound that was all he could hear, and…

Except… one word, over the madness of it all.

It was a whisper of a word. A caress of a word. It was hands on his face, it was closing his eyes, it was giving up the cacophony of how for the glory of why. It was lips against his temples, cool and soothing.

Missed.

Disclaimer: Still not mine to make money from. Mine to play with, though... *g*
Notes: Rather bizarrely, the title was another of my drabble prompts. No, really...

Oh, my, just seen this! And I'm torn between grinning from ear to ear (a la Enid Blyton) at *the* most fantastic title and the wonderful drabble itself - pure inspiration: beautiful *and* clever - surely the deadliest of combinations.....Yes, I liked it very much...

Thanks so much for this.

This is beautiful (over-used word, but just so apt here). Sheer poetry. Next time someone starts questioning drabbles as a writing form, may I please point them in this direction? :)

Ooh, this was nice. So much crammed into just 100 words.

Oh, and a thumbs-up to S2K for coming up with the prompt!
