May Day
by…

It was, Doyle thought, almost the perfect Spring day, even here in London. Michael Fish might be forecasting more doom and gloom, and somewhere south of the river the police were still trying to quiet the angry muttering streets, but here at least there were trees in blossom, grass newly mown and fragrant, and the sun was shining. For now, just for now, Brixton and the rest of the world could look after themselves. He slid a bit further down the park bench, let his head rest on the weathered wood, crossed his ankles for balance, and closed his eyes. There was, he decided, the occasional advantage in being dragged out to some of Cowley's more unusual meeting spots.

"Gis some o' yer Thunderbird, mister…"

Not peaceful for very long then.

"'s not the right code, is it?" he taunted, eyes remaining firmly shut.

"Today the geese fly south for the winter," Bodie suggested obligingly, and there was a creak and slight swaying as he settled beside Doyle, got himself comfortable.

"Unless someone's nabbed 'em for their Sunday dinner." He cracked an eye open, looked sideways at Bodie and found him smirking down at him.

"What? This Sunday? That's good of you mate. I'll bring the vino and…"

"Oh, you think we'll have Sunday off do you, with Cowley meeting us up here on a Friday?"

Bodie lifted an eyebrow at him. "You mean this isn't a pick up?"

Doyle grinned, opened his eyes and sat up – point to Bodie. "If you want me to leave you two alone…"

"Christ no, can you imagine? The old man wouldn't know what to do in the cottages!"

"You mean you're au fait?"

"I mean D'Oyly Carte…"

"Bodie! Doyle! There you are! I thought I said near the entrance…"

"Depends which entrance you meant, Mr Cowley," whispered Doyle into the sniggering earlobe of his partner.

Do you know, I think I was pissed when I posted that up above, because I cannot remember writing it, ROFL. However, go on then. I'll claim the next part *g*

You took me right back there! Let me explain.... I popped up to our little park at the end of the road early yesterday and it was fantastic up there - gentle sunshine, newly rained on grass and the wet had brought out all the smells of a warm spring morning: buds, grass etc. and reading this I immediately felt I'd been conveyed right back there - *very* atmospheric.

And you've got our boys just right: Bodie smirking and Doyle with his eyes shut, determined that Bodie won't arouse his interest or, god forbid, amuse him and yet, as always, he loses on both counts. I loved this. Thanks.

And those banners look damn impressive. Good choice. End of telegram. Stop.

Ah I do love banter boys, right from Doyle's first thought on hearing Bodie's voice. Not peaceful for very long then.
