They’d been back in the car for five minutes, the unusual silence between them broken only by the sounds of Bodie shifting around in the passenger seat.

“Spit it out.”

“What?’

“I can hear your brain turning over from here. Well, at least I could if it were really located in your arse… You can’t sit still.”

“At least they look incriminating, and that's all Cowley cares about. What you said about the photos.”

“Wasn’t going to tell Murphy anything he doesn’t already know.”

“It was more than that Ray. You sounded… wistful.”

“Wistful?”

“Like you wished none of this had happened.”

“Too bloody right.”

“None of it?”

“You didn’t have to confirm Cowley’s suspicions.”

“Those photos Ray were—”

“Nothing. All they really showed from that angle was the two of us standing a little too close together.”

“My hand on your cock—”

“Not visible in those photos. You could’ve just been showing me something—”

“I was, I—”

“Job related. Something job related. We were there on a job.”

“Well the way your head was thrown back was pretty—”

“Could have been laughing at a joke.”

“Cowley had to know sooner or later if we’re going—”

“It was just a hand job, Bodie. He didn’t have to know—”

“Right then.”

Doyle pulled the car into the curb and parked.

“Looks like the joke’s on me. Don’t worry. We’ll get this sorted for Cowley and it’ll be just like it never happened. I’m sorry, Ray.”

Bodie was out of the car, on the move, before Doyle could stop him.

“Bugger!” Doyle slammed his hands on the steering wheel.

Well I thought some extra "twisty" in here might be good for a RR, in case anyone would rather play with the emotional side than the "plotty" side.

And come on, we both know that sooner or later Ray would have to say something to Bodie about his having just admitted everything to Cowley, rather than trying to bluff their way out.

And I didn't think the keys would stop this particular conversation from happening. Ray's foot-in-mouth disease! *eg*

Well, I think it's all a terrible misunderstanding. *nods sagely* Doyle just couldn't stop himself from saying something about Bodie jumping off that cliff without consulting him.

Anyway, I thought establishing the limits of what has happened between them so far might open up space if someone wanted to write more... dialogue, yeah dialogue, between the two. *eg*

When I was re-reading this whole RR this morning it just struck me that I'd sort of jumped on possible emotional/angsty twists right off by having Bodie "come out" to Cowley, so it looked like high time for a misunderstanding to me! :D They need to get on with sorting out who is behind all this, so the misunderstanding could be bubbling along for a while with any luck! :D

Very well-placed angst here - and totally credible. Now of course it makes me feel all worried until they sort out their cross-purposes ... preferably with plenty of vigorous reconciliation ... in due course, depending on how much you all want to make them suffer of course!
