The following vignettes are not all Christmas themed. They don't all have chocolate in them, either, but are based loosely on either the name, the perception, or the advertising tagline of the contents of a 1980 Christmas Selection Box. I'll leave you to guess which is which :)

Sorry to post this old postcard; I currently have big technical issues to post files with pictures inserted. I'll come back with more, I hope.

The challenge was so much fun last year, that I´ll just do it again.
I hope everybody had fun with it, too

Well since I requested it, I thought I'd better set a good example... *g* I thought I was going to be all alone in it too, and then
dawnebeth posted - hurrah! Like hers, my drabble kind of got away from me too... *g*
The Holly and the Ivy
by Slantedlight
The carol singers were in fine voice, notes floating through the air and into Bodie's ground floor flat as though they were singing at King's, and there was only a brief pause at the end of Silent Night, a bare breath perhaps, before the next tune rose into the Christmas eve night.

This is one of those stories that kept poking at me for several days, maybe even a week before I had time to write it down. It surprised me, too!

I saw this pretty picture this morning by Minori and accepted the challenge. I kept getting an image of Doyle wrapped in holly in my head. I thought it would be a drabble, then a double drabble--now it's over 1300 words. Not beta'd or Brit checked.

Happy Discovered in the Holly and the Ivy Day! It's the first day of our challenge, and the tenth Christmas/winter/solstice/let-there-be-light type December challenges, and this year we're starting with a big reveal - pulling the curtains on the comm banner created by
minori_k. Are you ready...? This is what you will see at the comm, whenever you go over to visit....

Could there be a more beautiful banner for our challenge? *vbg* I have been dancing around my laptop for days, waiting impatiently until everyone could see it!
But I'm hoping our first day won't stop there - I thought that maybe as a thank you to Minori for such a gorgeous banner, we could try a wee Drabble-Ficlet-Tinywriting day? Can we write and post Drabble-Ficlet-Tinywritings throughout the day, inspired by Minori's lovely banner? There's a miniature version of the banner under the cut below if you'd like to post it with your offering - it would be lovely to see Minori's banner scattered through our flists today, with wee moments of Pros to go with it! What do you think? I'm dashing off to Job 3 in a minute, but I'll be composing as I go... *g*
Let's let Minori know how much we love her Pros (in any way we can... *g*) - post any time today, up until midnight lad's time (GMT), and then it will be Day 2. Pros in December has begun! *vbg*
( Mini-banner for posting with Drabble-Ficlet-Tinywritings today )
Thank you,
minori_k!

Discovered in the Holly and the Ivy
Nov. 15th, 2015 08:01 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
It's that time of year again - mid-November...
...and ten whole years ago
empty_mirrors and I sat on opposite sides of the world and wondered if anyone would join in a Pros Christmas/Solstice/Winter/Let-there-be-light type of challenge... *g* Ten years ago! My partner in crime sadly (for me) moved on to other things, but
discoveredinalj is still going - and here we are again. And yet again I'm wondering if anyone would like to join in... *g*
After wondering and puzzling, I decided to be inspired by our very first Christmas challenge - Discovered in the Mistletoe - and chose the Holly and the Ivy for the theme this year. It's about rising and running and playing with merry organs, and even about prickles and blood and dying - actually rather Pros-y, I thought. And it's greenery, and celebrating the cycles, and I thought that was what we were doing here at the comm too.
I've mucked together a placeholder banner, but our tenth anniversary Discoveredinalj artist is the fabulous
minori_k, and this year her banner is going to kick us off on the 1st December. Until then, it's a mystery - but it's the tenth anniversary banner, and being
minori_k, it's going to be something special, and I can't wait to see it... *g* Until then though - it's sign-up time!
( This is how it works... )
If I've missed out anything vital, or you have any questions, the do let me know in the comments - and otherwise, sign-ups are open, for the tenth anniversary Pros Christmas/Solstice/Winter
discoveredinalj challenge!
(And if you're very good, you might recognise that calendar backing as the very first Discovered in the Mistletoe calendar, as designed by
empty_mirrors... *g*)
