No real punk connection to this one, except the prompt, the Sex Pistols' cover of The Who's Substitute.

It's a big 'un, so I'm posting in two parts.

I have no quote because I really didn't have time to play this month.*g*

A seasonal snippet featuring a pair of anarchists-in-waiting.

I don't seem to be able to write anything but drabbles in Pros yet, but I'm trying!

The titles are lyrics from three well-known Clash songs: London Calling, Guns of Brixton, and Rock the Casbah.

London Calling

When the phone rang, he knew.

He tried to will it to stillness. Picked up, unable to bear either sound or silence.

"Bodie."

"Guilty. All counts." Cowley's voice was blank, stripped.

He'd known, he'd expected it, but still Bodie felt reality slide.

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world. He forced himself to breathe, and wondered why.

"Damn."

"Aye, damn. Of all my men—better all round if he'd died when he took those bullets."

"Same result in the end, sir."

"How's that?"

"Told him once: corruption's where the worms are. This way just takes a bit longer."

Shot Down on the Pavement

The bastards shoved her out the door and left her to die on the stoop.

I could have told her: people like us are pawns, and when the hard men don't need you any more, you're expendable. I could have spit on her and walked away, let her bleed out like a dog.

Ray wouldn't like that. Even if he never lives to find out.

Her hand's cold. I can feel the nicks and calluses left by her tools. Pulse even weaker than his was.

I can't hold Doyle's hand. I'll hold hers. He'll understand.

That Crazy Casbah Sound

It was the sixth bomb that finally broke Doyle's nerve. They'd spent the morning scrambling around London, always behind, always arriving too late for all but the body count. Now he leaned against the Capri, grey, trembling, thousand yard stare fixed on the blood running along the gutter. Bodie, who'd seen worse, though not often, stepped in front of him, grabbing his hair, forcing his head down into the curve of Bodie's neck.

"I can hear it dripping," Doyle mumbled.

Bodie turned, pushing Doyle's head closer until one ear rested directly against his carotid.

"Hear this."

So, I wasn't going to participate in the Discovered in the Anarchist Cookbook challenge because, well, my time is not my own right now! But...I got to thinking about the concept of Punk Rock, and images, and...this is what happened. The connection with punk rock might be somewhat...tenuous but it is there. At least in my mind. *g*

Here's my little contribution in the name of Anarchy. Thanks for the terrific prompt!

God save the Queen,
The fascist regime.

The Sex Pistols and The Clash, The Buzzcocks and Siouxsie Sue; Never Mind the Bollocks and White Riot. Bondage gear, King's Road and Vivienne Westwood. No celebration of 1977 would be complete without a nod to Punk Rock and its associated political movements.

What we want, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is Anarchy In the UK, a White Riot in 1977, Holidays in the Sun while London's Burning 'cause we're all Pretty Vacant and there's No More Heroes any more.

So, anarchy on the streets, in headquarters, between the lads or involving them. Punks on the rampage, or a visit to Malcolm McLaren's boutique SEX. Whatever you fancy and however it grabs your interest. Short or long, art, vid, or fiction, any and all are welcome.

Plus, come and share your stories. Were you the kid with the mohican? Did you raid your mum's kitchen for food colouring and black plastic bags? Did you use safety pins as earrings? Or maybe punks were the colourful older generation? The ones you looked up to and wanted to become. Whatever your memories, tell us and help us get a feel for the way things were back when the lads were just getting ready to appear on the small screen.

Comment below as usual and if you want a specific prompt, just ask. Posting dates between the 13th and 20th of October.
